so daffy im in serious need of english leason oh dear must be something to do with earning real money than sitting in a classroom getting bits of paper for my ego or it could be I have an old pc with a duff keyboard connected to the internet that I use for surfing and dont bother with spell checkers theres an old saying round here those that cant do teach those who cant teach become politicians you do sound like a rabid pro stickman if you check out the school website pauls quailifications come bottom of the pile its no secret he came to thailand and then tried hard to figure a way to stay and he had one of three routes generaly available then 1) working the tourist industy (bar/resturant/club /guest house) 2) become a teacher after paying $1000 and doing a crash course in TEFL 3) the hard one devlope a legit business in thailand so what does he do ? since 1 & 3 involve lots of money he went for the teaching option now look at keith the man came to thailand quite open about chasing the girls and has the captital to invest in a real job and business personalities aside and who said what to who theres a lot of green eyed monster floating around becasue someone has a decent legal job and the other is doing a job only because a thai with the required qulafications could earn a lot more elsewhere so the scjool gets in cheap foreign labour if you check pauls archives he hints he only became legal relatively recently now what youve got to think about now on keiths last posting he talks a lot about taxes and being legal if he has half a brain you dont start that sort of a thing going unless as a company he has all his taxes paid and his audits done if paul/stick or one of his legion of wannabes sets the taxman on him he should be clean the stickman is now in a very hard position if the alegations are only partly true he has a website that is run from thailand based on the seedier side of life which flies directley opposite his moral position as a teacher he is also a part time pi which deals almost exclusivley on prostitutes and there antics etc etc etc now its only a matter of time that either the school will dump him because of his other activities The taxman would becomes intrested in all this undeclared income or he will get the men in brown treatment all that aside the one everybody wants to win this situation I.E the stick/paul is at the moment the one who is in the untenable position its looking game over and back to kiwi land at the moment

I'm not a fan of either stick or notstick. I think you've outlined some things pretty clearly. However either I have misunderstand your comment above or you have misunderstood something about the education system in Thailand. So pardon me while I make a few matters clear. If I have misunderstood you, I apologize. First, a Thai teacher with even the highest qualifications could not make as much money as stickman does in his present teaching position anywhere. A Thai teacher's starting salary at a prestigious private school like that is about 8000 baht per month. After 20 years of service they'd be lucky to get 20000 baht per month. All Thai teachers in these private schools, and almost all public schools, have at least a Bachelor's degree, which stickman does not (you noticed their qualifications on his school's website too, didn't you?), and they also attend professional development seminars and workshops. The only qualifications they lack is not being from a Western country and usually not having such a great command of spoken English. So I don't know where is this "elsewhere" you mention or who the unqualified Thais are or who the qualified ones are either... Second, from the school's perspective stickman and the other members of the Caucasian staff are not "cheap foreign labor" in any way, shape, or means. You may think US$1000/month is peanuts, and it is, but when the normal Thai salaries are a fraction of that, it's enormous! The parents of the students that attend these private schools (there are many) pay relatively vast amounts of money for them to do so. So, although stickman's Caucasian colleauges may be better qualified than he is, or may be better or worse teachers than he is (who knows?), the fact is they are each a large expense and investment for the school, for which they receive a large return.

Last I checked there's plenty of people 'earning real money', who were also able to get an education, and care about spelling properly. Also, please do share how the money stickman presumably earns is not 'real'.

Heard that a million times from folks that don't care for edumacation...
Quote: from stuckinapub on 4:54 pm on Nov. 19, 2006 theres an old saying round here those that cant do teach those who cant teach become politicians
I think there's a different, but similar saying around these parts... Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, are stuck in a pub.
Quote: from stuckinapub on 4:54 pm on Nov. 19, 2006 you do sound like a rabid pro stickman
Better, I guess, than a Keith Summers fellator... As I see it, there was no apparent reason for Keith Summers to stalk Stickman and harass him the way he's done, and there's furthermore no reason for people like yourself to harbor your apparent dislike and schadenfreude over the pickle that stickman finds himself in - what's Stickman dne to you, or, to Keith Summers for that matter?

gee Daffy, there is no apparent reason for you to respond to these posts, yet you do it and I bet you think it is OK to do it, but you don't think that NSM has the same right ?? I don't really give a hoot one way or another (see I go back to Trink for commentary and he was a useless as SM is) SM, Trink, NSM are all just grist for those that don't have a whole hell of a lot to do... SM added little to the knowledge base for those who know there way around.. and often misled those who didn't.. NSM only added (and in a very long winded way).. don't trust SM or anyone else for that matter when it comes to info in Thailand..

There is nothing wrong if that were ALL he did - in fact, when he took the anti-stickman nightlife column approach, it was amusing. If you fail to see that he has at this point overstepped the boundaries of good taste, then you must be blind.

Quote: from stuckinapub on 11:00 pm on Nov. 18, 2006 ...fom one side of the situation we have a guy set up in a business appears tottaly legit making money and living the thai dream...
(Whistle) Yellow Card! A guy running a business on eBay in a foreign country is not really contributing to that country and is not (IMHO) making 'legit money'. How many Thai employees does he have? How about a office and the associated infrastructure costs? For an investment to create benefit for a community the business must hire and spend locally (and not just personal living expenses). Any economic benefit gained from an home-based internet business is negligible. Hell, this guy is no different from the Stick or any other English teacher. BTW: This type of situation really hurts the Expats who are making legitimate investments in LOS. IMHO all of the Internet Businessmen on their VOAs and Tourist Visas should just GO HOME!!!

Now whilst I think this guy is a head the ball he did say that he does have a factory sourcing local labour, materials and the using the local infrastructure with all the relvant bits of paper.

"If you fail to see that he has at this point overstepped the boundaries of good taste, then you must be blind." gee daffy, nice change of subject, a good way to argue, just change it to something else.. just where did I condone his behaviour? or even mention that, I was commenting on the general subject and your comment that he should not comment, while you feel free to comment
