In a western style toilet, use the hose to wash off and then use the paper to dry off. Flush the paper in the toilet. Not in the waste basket.
In the squat type, take your pants and underwear off (if you have any) and hang it up somewhere. This way you won't get any shit all over your pants. Wash with the water using the left hand or right if you are a lefty. After that if paper is available, dry off and flush it in the toilet. And then clean up your hands with soap and water.

Hello all!
I've just returned after a few years absence, and I wanted to come back and thank the good people who answered me about the hose.
The hose has changed my life! I remember that after reading the replies in this thread, I went to Thailand and gave it a shot, and have since never looked back.
Now, for those who have seen and been intrigued by the hose but still have doubts, let me tell my (short, and maybe too detailed) story.
At first the thought of using water to clean my bum seemed to be nonsense. How could it possibly clean everything with just a spray? It wasn't until later, when I met my girlfriend and observed her, that I realized I had to use my hand too! That seemed really gross at first, but after getting used to it, it was just *so* much better. Gone were the occational stripes in your underwear! No longer did I have to wipe myself soar on those days where you can just wipe and wipe and wipe but each sheet has a stripe. You hardly ever run out of toilet paper, since you don't use it for anything besides mabe dry off. And last. but not least - it's sooo much cleaner and hygienic (sp?).
These days when I visit a friend's house and borrow his toilet, I almost feel dirty since I can't clean properly. I really, really wonder why everyone isn't using this. I mean, you dont have to chop down trees to make water, you dont have to buy paper you just throw away, it's cleaner, it's way more comfortable, etc, etc
Anyway, I just wanted to say thank to the people kind enough to enlighten me. It has changed my life for the better.
