Mr Alan
Smegma, I understand. You don't like going toe to toe with someone who can stand up to your personal attacks and flawed arguments, and still get the better of you. Suit yourself.

I would like to give it a rest and let this discussion die, and just agree to disagree. I would never expect everyone to agree on such controversial topics, and I personally donít think there are always absolute right answers to some of these issues. Unfortunately, some people cannot do so without resorting to personal attacks against others, which is really unfortunate.

Why not time warp them back to a few minutes before the Enola Gay dropped the damn thing.

A few last minutes to reflect on the reality of history might bring them closer together.

Smegma,

Just to correct you on a minor point, "I always try to make a fool of myself - its dame f_cken easy after 10 plus Sambucas and a couple of B52 shooters". I too have lost interest in the thread debate.

I think we should initiate a politics/war etc section in the Z forum and retrun the main forumn to all the good things in life, such as, tits, twats, legs and other anatomy parts of the lovely TG ladies.

I thought the previous content Ýfrom all (I think we were at page 9 at the time) so worthwhile that I sent the address of this thread to Ýa couple of non-members interested in the history of the time - since this thread is about thailand, WW11 and "personal knowledge" - I got this response from one of them whose father was an Australian boy-soldier taken in the fall of Singapore and then transported to Thailand to work on the Thai-Burma Railway before a "hell-ship" took him to Japan as a slave for the last part of the war.

Join the army see the world .....

The Ditches are proof of the foresight of the IJA; along with the last 3.5 years in captivity and their record of brutality and murder, plus the 'Kill them All' Order, that was found in Tokyo after the war. Ý A full invasion of
Japan would have seen the execution of allied boys Ýin Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and other neihbouring nations and smaller islands in the Pacific. Ý Whilst the Thai's had their resisitance movement poised for action, would it have been too late once the order to remove all traces of Jap barbarity was given? Ý
Nobody will ever know. ÝHowever there is history and at the time 'very recent history' in how the behaviour of the IJA stirred on the decisions of the powers that be in the White House to use it's most potent weapon. Ý

The 'Sook Ching' cleansing in Singapore, which pundits of military backgrounds estimate at least 10,000 Chinese murdered in a 2 week period on Singapore Island, plus the Rape of Nanking (estimates there were in the excesses of 300,000 Chinese murdered - these included women and children) then the IJA's Ý'past and present' at the time left no doubt in the minds of the POW's themselves - this I have first hand knowledge on from conversations with POW's. Ý 'No bomb no life' that is
the succinct version of many conversations I had with POW's both here at home and in LOS. Ý That the first bomb did not stir much reaction in Japan was evidence that they simply did not wish to surrender, nor believe in the power of the new techology, they had 4 or so days in which to do so, then the second 'Little Boy' was dropped from Enola Gay, and still arguments in
the Jap Parliament went on about surrender - the threats then by the Allies was an unconditional surrender, or the third will be dropped on Tokyo. Ý

For the arguers in the forum - what they may not know is that 2,800 Aussie boys perished building the TBR where death knocked at the door of 1 out of every 3 Australians there - where in most cases it could have been avoided. Ý ÝAn unconditional surrender saved the lives of about 10,000 Australians (that was what was left from the fall of Singas 15 Feb 42) which were scattered across, Singas, Malaya, Thailand, various islands and Japan itself. Ý This does not count the Dutch (with about the same number of incarcerated personnel) or the English, which had double the amount and the Americans.

That is military personnel - there were thousands still in Japanese POW Camps in Changi (Singas), Malaya (Pudu Prison in KL for one), Thailand, Sumatra and other places who were Allied Civilian internees which included
mainly women and children. Ý ÝWith the barbaric history of the Nippon Army it is no wonder the US elected to finish it in one week - it not only saved the POW's but a Japanese mainland assault which would have taken many more thousands of lives on the allied side to stop the IJA. Ý ÝAlso the testing theory of the Atom Bomb - is the arguer saying that if Japan had the technology it would not use it - that would be CRAP. Ý Tell him to research the Jap Medical Unit - 731; and see what type of experiments this unit did on Americans, Australians and especially Chinese. Ý Hundreds were killed in
the name of experimentation by some of the cruellest methods known to man - try being operated on with no anesthetics to test the body's reaction to being stabbed with a bayonet, or the reaaction to new drugs and processes by which to treat bullet wounds - of course you need to shoot the victim first - these are just some examples of 731 - the video and testimonies by some
Jap orderlies and Doctors, I forwarded to the TBRC for them to look at.

Hundreds died in the name of experimentation - to which not many Japs were brought to justice - The Yanks did a deal with many to get their results -
it was the Jap Medical Unit 731 who gained much 'credit' for making many in roads into chemical warfare - in fact they were the first to develop many of the nasties we see today - again at the expense of their POW's especially the Chinese. Ý Without the bomb - me and my family would not be here - the ditches were not swimming pools nor defensive moats from an allied advance - they were mass graves, like the ones dug in Singapore some 3 years earlier for the Chinese during the Sook Ching and like the ones in Ambon where the
Japs murdered many more Aussie/US/English blokes - like the ones probably dug for the 3,000 odd, in East Malaya who walked the Sandakan Death March -
no actually that is incorrect, no mass graves in that instance - they were just killed on the dirt path where they fell. ...........Ý Ý
