I have hit surcharges in several tourist areas, exhibitions, attractions etc. so OK, the difference in living standards, salaries etc. make a valid point.
But I have a real problem with surcharges in places like MP's. Poor Thai's aren't going to be in them anyway.

So if you surcharge Farangs for girls this helps keep the Thai guys in the fun? C'mon lets be realistic.
The logic is that if they can get you to pay it because you're in the "I don't care" mode or just stupid or uninformed then the Thai charging the extra money will have more. Quite a simple concept.
You can't compare local entrance into the public buildings for free and the charge to non residents with this. The logic of that is that the buildings and temples belong ultimately to the people of Thailand and not the tourists.

Just sounds like the the extra charge, simply stated is so they can make more money. The all might $$$!! If they charge it and people are willing to pay it them they figure why not. And I think that it is easier to point out farlangs in thailand then the other races.

From reading many of the posts here I think anyone who speaks English as a first language or looks like they are from anywhere in europe is eligible to get the "special" price. It's no wonder when you read some of the prices paid just because it's cheap by our point of reference. I always politely decline to play if I think I'm being gouged and most times the response is fine from the Thai......who shouldn't be blamed for trying when it works so often. Shame on us for not being more up to speed on local customs and values before coming to their country........just what this forum is all about.

There are still a few about, apart from some being upfront pretty much and saying it, others whack on increased prices which will make us go anyway, thats the nice way of saying fcuk off. Anyway, I have not been to an MP for sometime, but last rounds late last year this was the case. One in particular I remember that did not let farangs in was opposite Bangkok Cosy in Petchburi Rd
