ABC: thanks for the reply, answers a lot of my questions. If the clothing stores or stalls are geared to Thai, then I might have a tough time finding shirts big enough especially after washing as you point out.
I'll just have to concentrate on bringing wash and wear stuff. If you or anyone else has knowledge of how the tailors work, would appreciate to hear about this also.

Hope the information helped out. I think you can find places that sell clothing in your size. I would not be too concerned, but just be aware that their xl or xxl is not always the same as in the U.S. I can never buy many cloths in Taipei, unless it's name brand.
No matter what you wear, just keep in mind that dress is only part of the proper attire. As pointed out earlier in this forum, behavior and attiude are more important then cloths.

Guess I won't take a chance and will plan to bring my own duds for now. Still have a few weeks b/f I arrive so I think I'll hit the Slimfast right away!
By the way, attitude and behavior have never been a problem I can always control them, it's my waistline that's out of control!

I can relate to the controling ones waistline. This is why I work out and try to eat healthy in the U.S before going to Thailand. Once there my problem is the drinking. I like to drink, especially beer. This can add a size of two to my waistline!! ha ha ha!!
No worries about the slimfast!! If you can not find your size for some reason at the vendors on the street, you can go to Emporium shopping center. They have name brand merchanise. But, I really don't think you will have any problems.

I can relate, size-wise, as I am an xl/xxl (western sizes) myself. I live in Bangkok and have found that it is very rare that I can find my size. I usually buy clothes when overseas or use tailors here. You can get clothes made relatively inexpensively and they will fit. There are tailors everywhere in the tourist areas. However, I would stay away from the bargain "deals" of two suits, nine pairs of trousers, sixteen shirts and a bj for US$100.

If it is any encouragement I had the wasteline problem when I turned 40 yearsof age. But when I started travelling to LOS I got the new incentive to sort myself out and got rid of 50 pounds through diet and exercise. Now the age issue that we have touched on in other threads seems completely irrelevent.

well, i suggest u dont have to pack much, in terms of toilet amentities. Boots in BKK sells almost every toilet amentities u need, from shampoo to self tan lotion. and they r much cheaper than those u find in Oxford street in London. as for those who have a bigger waistline and cant buy clothes off the shelf, there are rewoned tailors who make hotel visits and the clothes will probaly be ready in 24 hrs, the prices might be a bit steep, depending on the material u choose. but compared to many countries, they r a lot cheaper. i stronger agree with Abe snake, dont go for those package deals, the quality r general a lot worst. browse through the yellow pages, u will find some suitable tailors. regards.
