Asiabreastman:  I talked to the guys at the Bangkokshooting at WTC about 3 weeks ago.  Was planning to go there on my next visit.   I remember that it was a bit expensive, maybe $75 for 100 bullets and use of a 9mm or 38.   Not 100% sure of the price but was something like that.   They take you to a range somewhere, he didn't give the exact location..

Now .. that would be a rush. Firing a rocket propelled grenade.  Will definitely have to look into that one. what a better way to express those "Clint Eastwood, Rambo type feelings. ha ha ha ha!!

I've also heard, but don't know where, but you can also fire things like that in mainland China.

Wow. If those prices are correct ..... that is pretty steep for 9mm ammo, let alone any ammo!!

Might have to go golfing instead. At least I'll be guaranteed 4 1/2 hours of enjoyment, whereas 100 bullets could be gone within minutes!! ha ha ha ha!!

ABC:  I think it isn't a serious outting, and I don't think you are just paying for ammo in that price.  They set up watermelons, and various things.. I get the impression it is for tourists, not serious people..

Regarding China, I know from times that I've been in Beijing that there is a place outside the city where you can shoot machine guns and supposedly RPGs.  I never went but always wanted to!!!!

RE:  WTC range - organised for Jap's, hence the price. ( I think the have M16s.)

I went to a range in C.Mai, just rode in with an ex NZ-Asio guy.  Gun rental was about 500b, bullets 10 b each.  I think they were 38s from memory, safety had been filed off.  Had a few beers to steady the shakes.  (there were quite a few bullet holes directy above our heads).  My buddy put his first 2 shots through the same hole in the target, about 2" above the heart, I was all over the place.

One friend asked me how hard it was to get a gun - I told him about the paperwork, but found out it is (was - 2 yrs ago) possible for a falang to legally own one - although I think it must be kept at the gun club.

I investigated the black market, within a day I had a new 38 in his appartment 16k; elsewhere was offered some shoddy looking pistol for 10k.  Was told that this is extremely dangerous - if the gun has been used in a crime, the possessor of the gun can be liable!!  But was fun riding around town with a 38 down my pants!!

Oh, was offered a nice looking chrome pump action, but forget the price.

Cambodia also has the rockets - near the killing fields.  Last yr in Vietnam shot an AK and M16, much preferred the AK, but $1 US/bullet At CuChi tunnels, Saigon.

Happy hunting

^ The problem with illegal guns here... is that you can't practice with them.   Which 1) takes the fun out of shooting and 2) makes the gun useless to you if you need to use it in a tactical situation

I think shooting 100 rounds would be like taking half a piss.  I like to put at least 200 rounds through my 9 mm or .38 and another 100 rounds .22 LR (while plinking and chatting) when I go to the range, once a week, or every other week.

There are cops at every range (and not all are under the same allegiance to your faction/group... which is part of Thai group/social dynamics.... there are always factions).   So, if someone doesn't like you, they can just say... "hey, I don't see a serial # on your gun or.... do you have the papers for this? "

Falangs CAN own guns as permanent residents for sure, same amount of paperwork as a Thai.

You can get black market pieces, sure, but if you get stopped/caught with one, there's no way out (unless you know at least one police General.... and it's socially impolite to have a general bail you out more than a few times in a lifetime.... unless he's your dad).  :p

The legal pieces are worth it in the long run.

You're looking at 48,500 (non-friend prices) for just about every model.  I have a 17, 19, 26, and 27.     If you are a regular customer, you'd be able to get it for slightly less (not much).   It's considered a valuable good, so there's not much bartering (like for gold and BMWs).   Magazines are about 1500 each.   One great thing about Thailand gun wise is that there's no 10 round magazine law/limit (like in the US).  So you can get 15 and 17 round magazines for your piece, and virtually no price difference.

ABC,

Saw your note about shooting an RPG.  It is a little ways from Thailand, but if you ever are in Beijing, there is a place near the Great Wall which is run by the Peoples Army.  They literally have an arsenal of weapons to choose from, including RPG's.  You just pay for the ammo.  They have handguns, machine guns, automatic weapons, guns with clips and bullet belts, you name it.  I shot an AK 47.  I shot 20 rounds of tracers for less than 10 bucks.  I think the RPG was about $80.  This was a few years ago so the prices may be higher.  They had targests set up about 75 yards and TV cameras on the target so you could see your pattern.  Of course with an RPG, I don't think you need the camera.
