So my friend did not go to Switzerland, but decided to go to Indonesia instead. Her agent informed her that the money there was very good, and they would cover her room and board. After surrendering her passport and paying a bunch of money, she found herself in Jakarta owing money for her room and having no money for food. On top of that, she has been unable to get customers and so is having a difficult earning time any money. Unfortunately she arrived with very little money, assuming that she would be able to make much money quickly.

She says that there are many girls there from Korea, China, and Thailand that have been stuck there for months and cannot earn the money to leave. Many are now on extasy and cocaine in dealing with the scene. She asked to go back to BKK (she paid for a round trip ticket), but was told she must pay 25,000 Baht to get her passport back and her ticket. The other choice she was given was to work for two more months and earn the money to pay for her room and board.

There are many levels of prostitution in the world. Consensual sex between adults is just that, whether paid for or not. I've been on many a date that cost a lot more than a fun night with a TG, and the attitudes were just the same. Coerced sex is different and enters a gray area. But human trafficking is the lowest (especially with children). These girls get trapped in situations where there is no escape and they lose their freedom and ability to make choices about their lives.

Switzerland may be different, I don't know. It depends on the place and the circumstances, I'm sure. The fact is that these agents do not care about the girls and treat them only as objects to use and take advantage of. These people made some decent money on the deal. The upfront money (10-20K Baht I'm guessing), plus another 25,000 Baht on the back end. I hope they're happy.

Remember, you can have a good time without supporting this shit.

If your friend isn't completely locked in, why can't she just go to the Thai embassy in Indonesia, claim she lost her passport, and get a new one to return to Thailand? She'll still have to buy a 1-way ticket, but I'm sure its less than the 25,000 baht she owes.

If she is locked in and can't even report to the authorities, maybe you should consider doing so.

Don't know about Switzerland, but can tell you plenty about Bahrain. There are upwards of 2000 Thai girls working there as well as a host of other nationalitys. I have a TG that I met there 2 years ago and she has spent the majority of her time in Bahrain since, first as a bar girl then as a mamason. First time out she worked her arse off (upwards of 4 customers a day) making good money - but ultimately going home with very little after paying off her 'contract' and hotel bills. As well as paying a set fee to her pimp for getting her there in the first place she had to pay him a set amount each week. Until her contract was paid off her passport was held. It took her a month pay this off but it takes some girls a lot longer.
Next trip she arranged her own visa and ticket after finding out that it's pretty easy for Thais to get there and started to make serious money - in the region of 70,000 to 100,000 baht a week (minus expenses). I must stress though that she is a definate 10 in looks and personality, and the majority of girls here make considerably less than this. She tells me that Bahrain is now the number one place for TG's to work abroad because of the ease of getting there and the money that can be made. (it is harder for them to get through immigration in Thailand than it is to get into Bahrain) however the market is now saturated which is good news for punters but bad news for the girls as they have to drop their prices to compete - supply and demand.
From what I can gather most girls get ripped off by there sponsors first time out, but many come back again once they are 'streetwise' and fare better second time around.
The people making the biggest money are the Bahrainy sponsors, the mamasons (just about all first started out as bargirls here, some are fair with their girls but some try to screw every penny out of them), and the hotel and bar managers (usually indian) who take hefty kickbacks in return for letting the girls stay (usually 4 or more to a room).

I have met some girls here who by the time they go home have several million baht, but I have met others who are worrying how they are going to pay their hotel bill at the end of the week. For the young good lookers it can be a shrewd move and sets them up for life (if they don't drink and gamble it all away). But for others it is at best a lot of heartache for not much more than they can make in Thailand, and for some a complete disaster. a lot depends on how fair their sponsors and mammassons are as well as if they are lucky enough to be working in a place frequented by farangs ( who usually treat them with a bit of respect) or a place frequented by Saudis (who don't).

A lot of the girls get hooked and initially plan to work for 2 or 3 months intending to save a lot of cash quickly, but end up staying a lot longer.

It is also not without it's dangers. The bahrainys secretly like to have them here as it brings in lots of cash from saudi every weekend, but to keep the devout muslims happy they have to be seen to be doing something, so they do lock some of them up as well.

Somewhere a bit closer to Switzerland...My girl was originally going to work in the UK - but pulled out at the last moment after I talked her out of it (she had already handed over her passport to her Thai contact and never did get it back!) She was going to have to pay something like 1 million baht for her UK visa which she would have had to work off. Her friend went and cleared the money for the visa in only 2 months. I've seen enough horror storys in the news though to know that not all are so lucky.

I think any girl who goes to work abroad, especially if not young or good looking or preferably both, is taking a big gamble and may return to Thailand with nothing but emotional scars.

There are many ways of entering a european country for Tg's. The most commonly used way is a "sponsor" in the country of destination. Mostly this a Thai person legalized or even naturelized in the particular country. These people get paid by the girls and the girls end up working in a red light district or a Thai massage house on a 3 month tourist visa. The same applies to Switzerland. However, as previously mentioned, in Switzerland you also have the so called artist agencies who place girls in striptease clubs. Normally girls rotate on a monthly basis and typically the total length of the contract is about 9 months. All of this is accompanied by legal documents and a legal status. In most of these clubs they are required to do a couple of striptease acts per night and entertain and drink very expensive champagne ( with commission to them) with customers.
Obviously the real money is earned prostituting themselves, but they do get the minimum salary applicable in the country. Some deductions are made for social security and accommodation. If I remember correctly they were left with about CHF 1,500 after these deductions ( this is 4.5 years ago). As everywhere in the world in this business there are several layers of "go-betweens or middlemen" earning money on this. The impression I got however was that the girls ending up in these striptease clubs are pretty well off and are treated OK. This may be very different if their status is tourist.

The situation with my friend was resolved shortly after my previous post, and she is back in BKK and very relieved. There were a few days of fear and grave concern that she had to endure, but in the end 25K THB cleared things up. You can probably guess where the cash came from.

One of the problems she encountered was that she had no idea where she was, and no one would help her out. She tried to find street signs, location names, anything, but nothing was in English, and she couldn't find anyone who could speak English, even if they were willing to help. She also had no money for a taxi. Consequently, she couldn't bail out to the Thai embassy. She also couldn't call from her friend's hand phone because they had no money to buy minutes.

It got worse after she told her agent that she had the 25K to get back to Bangkok. They apparently didn't want her to flee, so they placed a couple of guards downstairs to keep her in, so she became physically trapped. Not knowing what was to happen next, she hid her money, and waited. She said a Chinese girl that finished her contracted 2 months wasn't permitted to leave (maye she didn't earn quite enough), so she tried to run and they beat the crap out of her. My friend had no idea what they would do next, and she had no control of their actions.

I told my friend to refrain from doing anything rash, to wait it out and carefully plan her exit. She said that they told her they would pick her up for her flight home, but they never showed up. I think that was the time she really started to worry. The next day she continued to wait with her bags packed and ready to go. In the evening her agent called and said they would come that night to take her to the airport. The next day I called her apartment in Bangkok and she answered the phone. She was very grateful and happy, and I was likewise relieved.

It turned out okay for her, and her friend also received money from a friend and was able to leave. But there was another Thai girl there who wasn't so fortunate and is likely still there, along with who knows how many others from all over Asia. If I or someone else didn't bail her out, my friend could have been there for quite a long time.

I pass this along so those of you who know someone who believes the stories that it will be easy money working overseas might want to advise that person of the potential risks involved. It is also a good idea to think about who you are having fun with, what the circumstances are behind their situation, and act accordingly. Trafficking is dicey business and a lot of girls get really messed up from it, especially if they went with very different expectations, and the agents are often not open about the actual circumstances.

Nothing in this story rings true. She has no money for handphone or taxi in Indonesia, but elsewhere you write about her 'hiding' her money. You give the impression that she was under lock and key and had guards to stop her leaving, and yet you were able to remain in regular contact with her.

So what's the story, morning glory.

The clincher for me is the fact that you had to stump up for her 25,000 baht.

Does it ever occur to you that you've been suckered?

Okay Scobie, let me clarify...

Cell phones in every part of the world except the US (as far as I have experienced) can accept phone calls but cannot make calls unless there are minutes paid for on the phone. I was able to call her but she could not call out.

As for the money, it was the money I sent her which she picked up before she was locked up. She was able to go wherever she wanted earlier because they knew (assumed) she didn't have the cash to leave, plus they had her passport. After she got money and told them she wanted to leave, then they sequestered her, I assume to ensure they would get their money. It's quite the business arrangement -- there is little monetary downside for the agents.

Sure, I thought about being suckered and in the end made the decision to send the cash. Actually, any hesitation I had about bailing her out wasn't about being the victim of a scam, but because I knew something like this would happen and it irritated me that she went despite my warnings. The phone number was an Indonesian number, and the email she sent early on to inform me of her plight and her friend's phone number was also from Indonesia. Anyway, I know her too well to think she would pull a scam like this. Cornering me for a bailout, yes, but plotting a scam, no. At any rate, we have been good friends for a long time and I decided to do what I felt was necessary not only for her but for me.

Besides, she "borrowed" the money and will pay me back, right?

So in what language were the street signs? I've never been in Indonesia. but I am sure they are written as in Malaysia.

It doesn't take you long to under stand that 'Leboh' stands for street and 'Jalan' for road. For the rest, it's easy to read street signs.

Furthermore, there is quite a demand for Thai girls (or Asian in general) in Switzerland. But in Indonesia? They have enough cheap hookers themselves. And the looks of Thai girls don't differ a lot from Indonesian ones.

The money was put in her bank account, so she used her ATM card.
