I agree....Loy Krathong is one day and one day only in my experience. Certainly after this years events I went home and watched the telecast from Chaing Mai and Sukhothai on TV.
It coincides with the November full moon.

you will not be disapointed with Chiang Mai as your choice for this holiday....lots of girls along the river in groups sending off their little boats praying for whatever...fireworks,lighted baloons in the sky and Thias having a great time...

Does anyone here have a feel for what the weather is like early in Nov?
Does LK ever get rained out?
This year there was quite a bit of rain Loy Krathong week, and that was on the 16th. The showers seemed to come mid afternoon and then vanish, though.
Nov 5 could mean more rain? Or do the rains usually stay in the daytime like Jamaica in winter?
I don't recall ever seeing rain at night in BKK, but I'm always there late Nov.
I've done LK in Chiang Mai, and it is incredibly beautiful, less crowded than BKK (amazingly large mob at Rama VII this year...), and the Kom Loy (fire balloons) turn the sky into one gigantic constellation.

BTW for the poster above who asked:
In Chiang Mai, LK is celebrated for THREE days, with the full moon date being the last night.
Lots of partying and krathongs and Kom Loy on the second night, and then the big parade (and I mean three hours long) on the last night.

3 days of partying, just what the doctor ordered. Will submit my vacation plans accordingly for Nov 2-5, 2006.
Wonder if the pick up scene will be easier during these festival days as I assume more gals wandering around or actually harder as they move more in a group setting and dont want to leave their friends?

The weather is good but it has rained over the years but that did not stop the fun...many local gals that are not on the pay scene out wih friends and family...and many on the pay scene with friends and family! It is not the rowdy scene like Songran
so don't expect that but lots of fun and many opportunities to meet local gals out for fun on this holiday...
