I guess I'll have to wait until the day that happens to answer that question for sure, but I don't expect it to be in this life time.
Point is, when U.S. forces kill civilians in Iraq or anywhere else, it is because of a mistake, the "fog of war." They don't deliberately target civilians. A U.S. pilot drops his bombs or fires his missiles at civilians because of human error (bad intelligence about the target or his own bad aim) or equipment malfunction, not because he's been ordered to. Same is true for artillery or tank fire that costs civilian fires. Ground fire from infantry is a more complicated situation, but combat isn't like you see in movies or video games. Mostly you set up a field of fire and shoot whatever is out in front of you. Sometimes, especially in urban areas, you'll unfortunately hit civilians, especially if the opposing side has forced them to remain in a combat area, but there's no targeting of civilians.
The suicide bombers are deliberately targeting civilians for faith-based reasons and in the belief they'll gain immediate entry to Paradise. That's why they are insane.

As a person having lived in an area in a country threatened by terrorists and fanatics all the time, I would agree with some of the board members (Evil) on their thoughts.
The army fights its own pseudo war with these terrorists in the country and often civilians get caught in the crossfire. Has this been an issue. At many times the army has allowed these so called "freedom fighters" free just to protect the lives of civilians. To what end? After a couple of months these terrorists strike again and kill more civilians. There is a huge difference between the fanatics killing the civilians and the army, which is forced to kill people of its own country sometimes.

It's ironic that the hated Al Queda suicide bombers are doing so on behalf of a movement which was not only supported by the US and the West 25 years ago, but was also financed and armed by them.
Back when they were fighting the russians (at the time the enemy, remember) they were noble freedom fighters. Now they are attacking the west, they're terrorists.
The same could be said of Iraq. Wasn't it the US who backed and armed Saddam when he was fighting the Iranians (at the time, the enemy, remember).
Yesterday's heros become today's villains, depending on the prevailing geopolitical climate.
Of course, we have short memories but its a truism in life that you reap what you sow.

Back when they were fighting the russians (at the time the enemy, remember) they were noble freedom fighters. Now they are attacking the west, they're terrorists.
No, they're terrorists now because of the way they do it. Attacking on our own soil, that's terrorism. Attacking westerners all over the world. We are not provoking them, so they do this as terrorists.
One of the problems is that when we retaliate, they counter-retaliate and now there is a long string of events that nobody even knows who has gotten even and who still owes the 'other guy' some carnage heh

Yanks, poms, spanish etc have been invading countries for profit for hundreds of years, killing 100s of millions of people.
The only way to fight back is via terrorism.
I hope the super volcano under yellowstone park doesn't erupt in my lifetime as there is only one country big enough and empty enough to accommodate 300 million yanks.

The reason people are being killed in Iraq is because the USA has charged into another country that has nothing to do with them for oil. The fog of war and the nice American soliders not targeting civilians has nothing to do with anything. If the USA army was not there then the civilians would not be getting killed. Yes, I know Saddam was a bad man and killed his own people but surely that is for them to sort out, it is there country. I do not see the Americans invading many countries in Africa to help them out. Of course Sadam would not have had the power he had if it was not for the USA in the first place supply him with arms and inteligence for the war with Iran.
I do belive Nelson Mandela was put in prison for planting bombs and therefore is a terrorist but I guess now he was a freedom fighter.
Americans financed the IRA for a long time to plant bombs in the UK but that was alright because they where fighting for the old country.
Grenada another country the USA invaded for no reason, Vietnam another one, Somalia, funded invasion of Cuba and have been involved setting up dictators in various countries in South America. The last just war the USA was involved in was the WW11 when they were actually bombed on their own soil, which is also debatable as that was Hawaii which they also invaded.
