True, sex work is not an "average" Thai female profession, but that doesn't mean one can't talk about average earnings WITHIN the field of sex work.
Their income varies a lot, of course, by where they are in the hierarchy (freelancer, bar beer, gogo, soapie massage, roughly in ascending order)...plus how good they are at pulling customers and, though I don't think this translates into actual baht as much as being good at pulling/chatting up, how good they are at f***ing. I would say actual looks, surprisingly to some of you probably, matter even less than the two above criteria when you want to talk overall earning power. Within reason of course!
What's ironic is that, while girls employed by bars (and certainly soapies) generally look down on freelancers, it's very common for freelancers to pull in more a month than bar beer or even some gogo girls, because of the loathsome practice of bars of deducting from their wages for not getting their quota of "Ops" and lady drinks...I know many bar beer girls who end up with nothing (as far as pay from the bar) at the end of each month.
Still, if they're good at pulling guys out the door, they're probably going to be good at scamming lady drinks too. And in such a case they are going to actually receive their salary (anywhere from 3,500 in a lesser-trafficked bar beer to 12,000 or possibly more in a popular gogo).
For freelancers (Sukhumvit freelancers), I would put earnings at roughly 10,000 per month to 40,000 per month, though it's not uncommon, especially during low season, to go for days without a customer. I think most of the non-hideous ones can pull an average of around 20,000 in high season--and that's not counting "sponsor money," which plenty of them pull in lots of, from several guys.
In a good bar beer or gogo, I think it's much more common to pull in 20-40,000 or so on average (with girls in high-traffic gogos at the higher end), and a few superstars undoubtedly pull in a lot more.
Ah, but the soapie girls...I knew one who was very charming, had the gift of gab, was not UN-attractive but certainly not most guys' idea of a "stunner"...and she made 80,000-100,000 a month easy. Hence the hierarchy among the girls.

Nobody said that you can't discuss Thai female sex worker income.
But from the title of the thread and from the initial post, this was suposed to be about the Average Thai salary, so it seemed somewhat ridiculous when guys went onabout how servicep providers earned or females in their companies got. They are the minority and do not reflectan average earner.
Since some guys have raised the issue of female salaries in the sex industry, allow me to make the point that the amount earned on the side for extra services and tips that would be on top of that, is in no way part of their salaries and canot be accounted as such. Part of their income maybe, but not what they officially earn, according to the statistical data.
As for employed Thai females looking down on freelancers, this evolves from their own, unique, very Thai way of culturally perceiving the interweave between employment and renting out your body for money.
A girl employed in a bar, even though she may spend her days and nights on her knees sucking cock or ready at a moment's notice to be the 'take away' dish, is still employed and has that status.
A freelancer has no such status and having no 'job' as such is therefore officially unemployed. And in this Thai and Buddhist society, there is stigma attached to that which removes her distantly from being aligned to any other worker and sets her quite apart from all others to be despised. and seen as of no worth.

Yes, all very good points.
The looking-down-on-freelancers thing can really be striking, too: I know a girl who works in Toy Bar--talk about having to be ready to suck or jack off a cock at a moment's notice!--and this is what she had to say to me once about freelancers on Sukhumvit late at night: "Those girls are out there selling themselves like they're chickens in the market, it's disgusting!"

There are some FL who previously worked in bars and have gotten into trouble in one form or another - either drugs or stealing and fighting. When the word gets out on these girls, no one will touch tem and their only recourse is hit the FL market.

Factor X - I am a civil engineer. You will be lucky to get a job in Thailand as a civil engineer and the salary levels will be poor.
A lot of guys have stayed around here on local salaries rather than leave and get expat salaries in another country.
When you are competing for work with expat guys who will accept 100-150k Bt per month you will have no chance. Unless you can get a job with an expat company even then you will only make 250k-350k Bt per month if you are lucky. You may get a car and rent paid though!
Regarding average Thai salaries in engineering (oil & gas). At my last company the low end of the graduate scale (non engineers) were on 25-30k Bt per month.
Engineers with 5-10yrs experience 40-60kBt and high flyers or senior guys from 60-120k Bt month.
There were a few thai guys specially recruited (age 35-45) who were on 150k+ per month.
These are quite nice salaries for Thais...it sure beats being a farang EFL teacher!

On the other hand, Thai female sex workers have long since held the belief that they can do the job on their own and have no need for foreign assistance or intervention. Unfortnately, this has not stopped Russians and the like trying to create a little corner for themselves in the market here.
Personally, I'd never give the job to a foreigner, that is unless she was from another South-East Asian country as well as China and Japan and what was Macau.
