After hitting LOS for the first time in 1997 and having a relationship with a TGF in my country for almost three years, I have to admit that I am addicted to LOS, too. I often thought of working again as a scuba diving instructor in LOS and be there for a longer time. But for myself it would be a big step back in the financial issue. I cannot have it all and therefore I spend my holidays there twice a year and hope to find the right TG to be with for good - with the possible option to live in LOS one day in the future and have a decent job or a business on my own.

I don't think i could live on 27, 000 a month i spend about 50,000 baht a week when in Thailand although i could not keep that pace up for long. Regarding interest rates. You can get 5% pretty easily through a streamline bank account in Australia but that barely keeps pace with inflation. I prefer property investment as the returns have been consistently high over a long period .I would love to live in Thailand but cannot give up making what i make here in the middle east which is about 350,000 baht a month tax free with benefits. It is a real money trap here but there is always Dubai which is really awesome these days but still not Thailand.Maybe one day i'll make the plunge but geez money comes first to me these days and i cannot get as much anywhere else as here. The sacrifices we make!!!!!

Okay, I gotta come clean. I was just trying to make the dream feel in reach for the brothers abroad. I'd probably want to start with a more generous pile of dough in the bank too. But not much more. Maybe just triple the $300k, and I'm sure I could underspend inflation without a problem and still make the princinciple grow just from unspent interest. ;)

Brothers, I share your feelings/comments on wanting to come back to Thailand over and over and over again. Please read my 'slogan' below and you understand perfectly what I mean .......... it's because of the wonderful Thai pussies that we have all 'tasted' and that's what we are all addicted to - pure and simple, nothing more than that. Ask BK. He came, he saw, he conquered and he never wanted to leave ThighLand forever.

sukhumvit boy, You can always send your son to an 'International School'. How about your wife ? Are you divorced or separated ? If so, look for a Thai girl, marry her and she can take care of your son and you....... Killing 2 birds with one stone.

Thanks PL69,actually although I still live with my wife, who is Thai,we decided a few weeks ago that our marriage was over so now we just do our own thing but live together for convenience and for the sake of my boy. It would be fantastic to be able to do what I want in Thailand as regards to going out and no one to answer to etc.

Packripper The problem with money is that it is very difficult to downgrade your living standards. If you are used to 200,000 baht a month and are reduced to 100,000 baht a month this can be extrememly difficult to bear.Your status, the way you perceive yourself all take a battering, not to mention the little luxuries that you have to forgo. However if you go from say 20,000baht a month to 60,000 baht a month you will feel like a king. It is much easy to go up the ladder than down the ladder.

Understood. Again, it depends on the person. Myself, my biggest expense is entertainment of the night time variety. And it's really something I would like to cut down on. Even at 27, fifteen nights average out a month is very tiring (almost to the point of not being fun). I got most of my travel bug out of my system when I was younger, so that's not going to be an expense burden. Other than that, I have no other expenses (unless you want to consider food... which I prefer to have someone cook for me at home, and even 10 nights dining out a month at 1,500 a night is still really nothing). I'd be hard pressed to spend more than 100,000 Baht a month in Bangkok. Just me.

All your ideas are the "leave everything and stay in TH" method... dropout. But becoming English teacher or diving teacher in Thailand would be beyond my personal habits. Personally, I prefer the idea of working somewhere in SEA where you can still earn some money but the flight time to BKK is decreased... as a lot of people have said in this thread BKK means fun _because_ you earn some 200kBaht a month and can spend a lot... Using a platform like Singapore or Hongkong as a hub to BKK in my eyes seems to be a "working solution" for the beginning. Any objections?
