Quote: from Sauron on 3:48 am on Jan. 16, 2003 Damocles, Singapore has a Chamber of Commerce in Thailand, an Embassy, and a Consulate, A branch of the EDB. All there to help legitimate Singapore manufacturers to export goods from Singapore into Thailand. AFTA is moving along, ASEAN is there, so I think BigDUSA has something of a point. MOST OF THE POSTERS ON THIS FORUM do not reside in THAILAND. VERY FEW of the posters on this forum know a damn thing about importing, distributing, wholesaling, retailing of consumer appliances or electrical products in Thailand, or probably anywhere else. Thailand has rather high import duties on such items and then 7% VAT which may climb to 10% later this year. The import duties are applied to the CIF not just the invoice value, and then the VAT is applied to the CIF value plus the duty, so it's double traxation. You will need a customhouse broker to handle formal shipments (anything beyond the odd sample.)
thanks for your advice. honestly i do not know much of the local laws in thailand and also the custom regulations so my next trip would be to gather as many information and contacts as possible. rest assured that i will be visiting the Chamber of Commerce and Embassy in Thailand this time round. btw, what's the consulate?
