FIB:

I used your links and enjoyed the reading. ÝThanks a lot.

Mr Alan:

While I certainly agree that the main reasons for dropping the bombs on Japan were to save American lives and end the war, I was merely paraphrasing Harry S Truman, the person who made the decision to drop the bomb. ÝHere's a short quote from him.

"Having found the bomb we have used it. We have used it against those who attacked us without warning at Pearl Harbor, against those who have starved and beaten and executed American prisoners of war, against those who have abandoned all pretense of obeying international laws of warfare. We have used it in order to shorten the agony of war, in order to save the lives of thousands and thousands of young Americans."
("Public Papers of the Presidents: Harry S Truman, 1945", pg. 212).

There is quite a bit more original data in his autobiography and the information derived from a 45 minute talk Truman had with former Supreme Court justice Tom Clark, as Truman lay dying in Research Hospital in Kansas City.

kjayson7:

No personal attack was intended.

On Dec 8th 1941 at 2am less than two hours after the attack on Pearl Harbour, Japanese forces began invading Thailand. Both the US and Britain had already advised Thailand that they were "unable" to offer military support. Fierce fighting between Japanese and Thai military forces occurred in the Songkhla and Pattani areas. Many small war memorials exist today in these areas. Ý
The second wave of Japanese forces came ashore at Chumphon and Prachuap Khiri Khan.

A detailed history of events during this period can be found in "The Thai Resistance Movement During World War II" by John B. Haseman - available at Asia Books and at the Kanchanaburi Thailand-Burma Railway Centre - fascinating reading.

The dropping of the atom bombs ended the war - only on the
insistence of the Emperor Hirohito - the japanese military wanted to fight on - this sudden end also prevented the carrying out of the "Kill them all" order in relation to allied POW's in Thailand.

Up to 100,000 Asian laborers died on the construction of the
Thailand-Burma Railway. Some survivors never returned home to their native countries and still reside in the area.

Chinese settlements in Northern Thailand contain remnants and descendants of Chinese Nationalist Forces send south to fight the Japanese after the invasion of Thailand.

Countless acts of resistance and support of Allied prisoners and Allied war efforts are recorded in both official and non-official records of this time. On one occasion a Bangkok stationmaster drove a locomotive and four carriages of ammunition into the Chao Phraya River - he was executed by the Japanese.

Saying that Thailand was an Axis power or sided with the Japanese is technically correct but is about as fair as saying that someone who hands over the cash at gun-point during a bank robbery is part of the gang.

Good advice, how about you take it?
Kjayson7 , you say you are Japanese, and live in the Usa, are you American or Japanese?
It seems you have a lot of inner conflict, just from the content of your posts.
And I think I've seen all of them.
One in Particular ( You have since changed the title )
" Thai, who the f_ck are they?"
Nice.

If you conduct yourself in Thailand this way, you will end up in deep shit.
Just a word of caution.
My invitation to meet you still stands.
Peace

Mr Alan
"are you American or Japanese?"

Are you asking what his citizenship is? I think it is obvious that he was not born in USA, but it is possible that he is a citizen.

"American" is not a race, it is citizenship of a nation of many races and origins. That includes Japanese-Americans, although I don't know if Kjayson7 is just a Japanese citizen who happens to reside in the US right now, or whether he is a US citizen.
