SUCCESS - - We submitted our application and supporting docs in the morning, had a brief interview a couple of hours later and picked up the visa later the same day.
docs we submitted -
Proof of long term relationship - telephone records and passport copy showing visa stamps from previous visits to Thailand.
Evidence I can support and accomodate her - 6 months pay slips and a recent bank statement + proof of accomodation we can use.
Sponsorship letter from myself stating how long we had known each other, why I wanted her to visit the UK, and just reitterrating the documentation we had available and that I had no intention of letting her overstay the visa. (Easy for me to prove since I work abroad and therefore cannot stay in the UK for any length of time either).
Other docs I had but they did not wish to see:
Letters I had sent to her over a period of time, photo's of us together in Thailand with family/friends etc.
Letter from my employer stating my salary.
Documents showing she has property and land in Thailand (a reason for her to return).
Flight bookings I had made in advance.
She has no proof of employment since I support her at the moment while she develops an income from her land - they accepted this.
I was led to believe both from the embassy website and from an e-mail I recieved from the embassy previously, and also from information at the embassy on arrival that she would be interviewed 2-3 weeks after submitting the application. However she had a brief 5 minute interview the same day (which I also attended). They asked her how we met and why she wished to visit the UK and how the trip would be funded - basically she just confirmed everything I had already written in the sponsorship letter. After this the they confirmed we could pick up the visa the same day.
Take docs to cover all info they may require, a sponsorship letter, dress smart and be honest. As Quetsoi says make sure your girl is friendly and confident. If your genuine its a walk in the park. And no you don't need to use an agency - a letter inside the embassy states that this can even count against you!
I can confirm that Visa sex is the dogs b*ll*cks - but try to make it outside the embassy first!

Whilst getting a Visa is probably 95% of the problem solved don't forget that the Immigration Officer at the point of entry has the final say on whether the girl gets into the U.K. or not. She should dress smartly for the journey and if you cannot accompany her on the flight, make sure you are there to meet her at the airport, if the Immigration Officer has any doubts about admitting her he may want to talk to you.

Congratulations on the good news. 
Just a word of warning though I doubt that your lady would have anything incriminating, but if immigration are suspicious of anybody’s intentions they will search all baggage and any correspondence will be read.
If you want an idea of what may happen, there is normally reruns of “Airport” on Sky’s Horizon channel at 20:30GMT every week night.
If you are not travelling with her, my be an idea to give her a letter of introduction in case of an emergency with your contact details, most important your mobile phone number.

Flik - great to hear your good news. It is a huge relief is it not? And as you can confirm, the Visa sex is just heaven! Settlement Visa Sex is something I may have to go into training for......
True about the immigration officer at LHR - I am back in Bkk in two weeks and will accompany my girl back and even brave the huge EU queue with her just to make sure all goes well - and yes again, dress smart and be confident is still the watchword, and I have also made sure that my girl will carry evidence of her finances and an ATM card just in case, even though I am her financial sponsor - I dont want any hiccups at the final hurdle....
Do you want to meet up in London at some stage? Could be nice for the girls. When will you both be in the UK?

I took a Philippino girl friend from HK for a months holiday in the UK, the visa was no problem. Paperwork submitted day 1, interview day 2, pickup visa day 3.
The paperwork show was A letter of my status and reason for me visiting UK on leave, a letter from my sister saying she had met my GF and she would be staying a few days with her, a copy of my bank statement and employment letter.
She produced a letter of employment, bank statement, lease agreemnt and her younger sons school record book. all reasons to return to HK.
On arrival at LHR I went through the UK channel and she went through the tape maze, in fact she got to the desk before me as a person in front of me had a problem? She was asked for her return ticket and she said I had it in the travel bag, once through I went over ands the officer ask if I had her ticket I said yes and went to get it out, she said dont bother and stamped my GF passport.
Once in the baggage hall my GF still shaking asked why she didn't want to see it and I replied the english girls see 'big ones every day' she burst out with laughter and gave me a dig in the ribs.
A word of warning this was in May/June and she was going around with about 6 layers of cloths on, so make sure jackets are on hand.

Thanks for the advice about the immigration officer, must admit I hadn't given much thought to this. I will be travelling with her so hopefully there won't be a problem.
Quietsoi - We will probably be arriving in the UK on 16 May though I'll be finalising our travel plans this week. Not sure if this fits in with your girls holiday - maybe too late for you? If not let me know and we'll get together. We're intending to stay in London for a couple of days when we arrive and do the tourist bit.

Flik - no not too late for me, we will still be in london, hanging out in leafy Highgate, but as it happens it might just be that we are back in Bkk on holiday for a week or two, as I have to be back that way on business. but email me closer to the day and hopefully we can arrange it.
I take it you will not be living in London then?
We will be in london until late August, and then hopefully back for a second 6 month visa shortly after that.

My girlfriend went down the Embassy this morning to renew her UK Visitors visa and was told that she has to go to an agent or office on Ratchadamree road...
Anyone know anything about this.???
I'm out of the country for a couple of weeks so I can't check personally.

hi all just to let u know I have my thai g/f back here with me now till january.it took a week to process the paper work and 50000baht but was worth it I used visa2britain which are baesd in pattaya behind the right spot bar on beach road pattaya between soi13 and soi13/1.so good luck to any of u guys appying for a uk visa or euro visa aswell.
