How did she open a bank account without a passport? And why did she open a bank account. Did her pimp transfer her income to that account? Probably the pimp opened the account himself and took your THB 25,000 right away.

Quote: from DrLove on 12:27 pm on Feb. 28, 2005 So in what language were the street signs? I've never been in Indonesia. but I am sure they are written as in Malaysia. It doesn't take you long to under stand that 'Leboh' stands for street and 'Jalan' for road. For the rest, it's easy to read street signs.
The alphabet is Roman, so I don't think it would take too long to start putting it together. One of my friend's problems was that there weren't street signs to read (she said the neighborhood was basically a slum), and so she was concerned that she would not be able to tell anyone how to find her. I imagine that after several days of observing the surroundings, depending on your exposure, one could piece things together.

It's much simpler, actually. It was her existing Bangkok account. And I'm sure the pimp wasted no time in taking my money. The beauty of ATMs -- you can get your cash everywhere. Except for Japan, that is. They have a propietary banking system, so regular ATM cards don't work. You have to go to Citibank locations to get your money, and they aren't everywhere. You also can't use your cell phone there because they have a propietary wireless network. And Western Union (as I found out) is available in only one location in Tokyo, and I think you can only send from there, not receive.
