Seriously though Thais will often judge you how you dress. Look like a slob or a pack packing hippy that is how they will judge you. Wear a suit and you will be thought of in a totally different light. Three years ago I went to a Thai Hi-So event and after was dropped off near Asok in a new Land-Rover. I wore my Silver/Grey Thai silk 'Motown' suit. Talk about "Hello hansum man !"
A similar thing happened about 18 months ago and I was in Shebas in a light coloured suit after going to some event or other. It was raided by the Police and I thought here we go they will want to see ID ? The Police pretended that I wasn't there. The suit made all the difference.
This is not a promotin for my Thai tailoring friends !

Can't really add anything original to this thread other than concur with the OP. Some of the farangs I saw in Bangkok were absolutely disgusting.
The pics are indeed hilareous, but I reckon I wouldn't be laughing so hard if it was me in one of them. Imagine if the "Skipper" guy is married - boy, is his wife in for a surprise!

A nice thread. After a long time. Why were those WWF types not captured ? This thread reminds me of a sight on my recent trip. A tall, gangling elderly farang on the main Suk at 2 in the morning, part of the returning crowd, stumbling with every step, but ably supported by a young belle on either side. He made many heads turn, but I remember one that looked at him in scorn. And, when he almost fell to the ground, I remember, I felt nothing.

The truth is I often take a suit with me when I am staying in Chang Mai..............But the reasons are more sinister.

Talking of dress sense, anybody remember the guy who used to walk around Suk Soi 4 in a dress and high heels? Tallish guy with 3 days growth and hairy legs, he made no attempt to look like a woman (other than the wig). Probably didn't want to, just liked dressing in the gear.
