Agree with you it's a demographic problem, c'mon guy's let's face it us farangs here can only survive in a good paying job. Try to live with a local's salary and your off to the dumps. Maybe English teachers are an exception, but all the rest? This sure brings many to be"losers". Demographics my friends..

Hmmmm - some of the greatest contributors of culture - such as worldfamous performers of music, art and litterature - has been among the greatest whoremongers, drinkers, gamblers and just in general really guys whose behaviour out of work was really a lot "different".....

Does culture have anything to do with smarness then?? I havent got a clue. But the basic thing is that "eric" is not defending culture as a thing in itself. No no. Instead he is "taste police" who claims that the topics we debate here are really worth nothing but disgust. Ok - thats the blokes opionion - but dont try to hide behind so called "culture"!! If there is ANYWHERE sex - and often diverted such - is to be found, 100īs of years of culture is just the place to look!

I don't think all farang in Thailand are losers but there is a higher proportion of these types in Thailand than any other place. I have come across way too many unsavory characters on my travels in Thailand. I don't even hang out at bars and nightlife areas that much either but I see it in normal areas way too frequently to discount this as coincidence. Thailand has a pretty sleazy rep globally. Whenever you have this rep you tend to attract bad elements to your country.
Thais in general can also be a pretty naive lot when it comes to the outside world. As long as you present yourself well they will probably give you the benefit of the doubt. Oftentimes appearances really are just "skin deep" in Thailand. Let's face it critical thinking isn't a valued attribute of the Thai mindset. However, with true middle class Thais and those that have lived abroad I think they know what the true perception is. I know many "westernized" Thais who have a very cynical viewpoint about farangs in their native country and aspects of Thai culture.

You use the word 'culture' a lot. I don't think you know what it means, based on your reasoning.
Sex and Culture are not mutually exclusive, as you appear to imply.
Clearly, Picasso, Hemingway, Casanova, Victor Hugo, Mozart, etc... all loved and enjoyed sex, and drink... That's not the point.
But.... They were all literate, they all had a decent education, they all knew how to write a letter (or a book, or an essay), and they could aprticipate and engage in what was then considered as 'cultured' behavior, in polite society.
How many of those individuals the original poster criticized are able to do the same? Based on general impressions, I'd have to say, awfully few, if any, of that demographic.

Why is it that someone that is down on his luck always has to find someone else to put down? You know I don't give a f*** what you assholes think. I am here for my own reasons and one of the reasons I left the USA is because of all the f***ing moralist in that country. The f***ing assholes who blame this person or that person. As long as the person is not breaking the laws or messing with children then leave well enough alone. There are enough people in America stealing from each other and f***ing each other over. Why I am over here or any other persons reason for being over here is nobodies f***ing business but my own and the person or people I am willing to share it with.
