Quote: from farang9 on 8:40 am on Aug. 6, 2006 recommend somewhere in Suk where I can get an old-fashioned "shave and a haircut
I'd try the Barber Shop in Grace Hotel, it's accessible from street level along soi 3. They're used to shaving the heavy Middle Eastern beards. My shaving experience there was very positive....

Dont try soi 10 Pattaya next to shit hole laundry. (sometimes minds store) Fortunately I just got it all shaved off.

farang9, I always get my haircut each BKK visit at a barbers on Soi 4 (name??). Pass Nana Plaza on your left, Dienasty hotel the its between Chequers bar and another bar with totty outside. Have the full treatment haircut, shave, nose and ear hair trimmed, pedi and manicure. Sometimes the foot massage. Once had the facial but that was not by choice. Was having a few afternoon drinks with mates further up the Soi, when I decided to get the Barnet done before going out on the town that night. The haircut and shave had been done and I sat back and closed my eyes while the girl did the pedicure. When I woke some time later my face felt like it had been glued together, what the hell I asked after the stuff had been pulled off. The girls just fell about laughing, when I came to pay the bill they said it had already been paid????? The next day a set of photos was pussed under my door from the Mates "the barstewards" UKP

Quote: from barrafish on 9:04 am on Aug. 1, 2006 200-250b is a bargain, no doubt about that. What does that say for 50b cuts.
Agree about this. But, all persons have different hair. My hair is as thick as they never seen on any Thai person... So If I find a hair-dresser who can handle it well, I stick with him/her. And right now, the soi 7 hair-girl is my number one. For 250 baht it is 0,08 times what I pay at home... I did not think about this when I started this thread, but this is an very informative thread with a surprisingly low level of flames...

I always do the same thing. Walk along and when I find a hot girl in a shop not busy go in and get her to cut my hair. I have had mixed results at best with this strategy but I keep repeating it anyhow

I really appreciate a thread like this, rather like the Star of Light thread, with recommendations and guidance and price comparisons and tips. However, I recently discovered that it is essential whilst reading this forum to take notes and to keep them about your person as you go about your particular endeavours associated with a particular thread. But it is imperative that after a few hours of beers, you don't decide to try to remember the info. I thought I did and wandered down a soi, knocking on an unlit door, thinking that this was the place and got admitted. Insisted on the quality haircut and came out looking like a toilet brush. I passed it the other day and it isn't even a hairdressers. I turned my face away as I passed but they recognised me by the hair.

Debaucher: What is it if it isn't a hairdresser? If it's a welding shop, I think you made a bad choice.

The difference between a good haircut and a bad one is two weeks, I've heard it said. Debaucher, what's your prognosis? As I mentioned in another thread a couple days ago I recently got a haircut in Central Rama 3. This is my second time at this particular outfit. It's located on the penultimate floor on the side away from the theater. 200 baht for a good job sensitive my every follicle and the way each hair protudes from my noggin, as many posters have indicated above. No more Mayan warrior cornbowl for me, even if the affordable barbers of Chichen Itza do trim my nostril hairs for me. I didn't like the hairwasher girl this time though. I thought she was jerking my head around a bit too much. You know the difference between a gentle and considerate jerk and one that feels like limbs of aluminum are treating your head like a tin can on a string. I try to relax, hoping to transmit a relaxing energy from my scalp through her mechanic gyrations, but no avail--I'd put my head in a washing machine. The assigned haircutter was of the ladyboy faction. Well, he did a good job as far as I could see and didn't pester me too much with inane questions about where I'm from etc. I kept my arms in my lap and there was none of those gentle pressures of the haircutter's body against my own that come to relax me so much during a woman's cutting job, thank goodness. Still, I guess he did a good job and nobody's laughing behind my back that I've caught at it yet.
