Lord Mancroft once said that cricket was a game which the British, not being a spiritual people, had to invent in order to have some concept of eternity. But I rather agree with the Bishop of Canterbury, William Temple. who in 1925 stated that personally he had always looked upon cricket as organised loafing. It was Dennis Norden in 1977 who said...................... It;s a funny kind of month, October. For the really keen cricket fan, it's when you discover that your wife left you in May. So that really sums up my attitude to this particular sport, the guys who play it and the guys who like to watch (?)............. No offence intended to anyone or any nation. Now Rugby Union, and not your Australian rules or League version that you find in England in dark industrial places, but the real thing, well, that's different. So I can declare that I once thought I saw a very generous pair belonging to Erica Roe in the fishbowl of CP2. But I could have been wrong. ( I hope that satisfies the real sportsmen here who prefer the real sport.) And then there was that night last week when I was standing to attention in a bar in Soi 22 humming God Save the Queen, but if she was indeed lurcking around the bar, I didn't see her. But she couldn't have missed me. I was being firmly held down at the time. To each, his own.

humming "god save the queen ? the facist regine" ? by the sex pistols, or the anthem. Interesting that you dislike cricket for its pace ( there are now 20 20 games etc you know) but prefer rugby union over rugby league? My Thai wife quickly understood the rules and enjoyed league,, then the world cup Union was on,, she said, "why they lay ontop each other like Katoy? LOL So slow never see ball, ball always under man that under many other man. But I like the scrummers,, very neat rugby league scrummers not neat like that. It took me a week to stop laughing. Mel.

Humming God Save the Queen.......nothing to do with queens or ladyboys or Katoeys. Just a device I use to prevent myself from cumming too quickly if aroused too much. At my age, I need to make things last. Life is short. Use every minute to the full and protract every pleasure.

Nope. Ask anyone of them if they know Arnold Schwarzenegger, and you'll get big smiles, just to put into perspective *what* a celebrity is.

I do not know Arnie. I have seen motion pictures with him in the cast and sometimes on the news channel, but as to knowing him, I must regretfully say....No.

I must admit that I have seen barrafish in a number of places....and that was some time ago, before he moved into the fresher fields of available positions. But that is celebrity enough for me. I don't want to get overdosed.

Yes. Good question. Who is the celebrity in your bar ? Who is the celebrity in your life ? Might it be you ? The one you love ? So-called "celebrities" are usually people who have won the public eye and for their fame, work or fortune have scacrificed the chance to have a private, free autonomous life with no notoriety. Not all of them are rich. Not all of them are talented. Not all of them have sought the attention of the media and the status of being a so-called "celebrity". Some just do their job. Others couldn't if they tried. And still more are just manufactured by the media. Strange to me how so many people feel the need to have heroes and people that they can look up to and adore. It must go back to something deep in our childhood about bed-time stories, myths and legends and Father Christmas and the Saviour, and of course, once stuck so early on, one never loses this desire to adulate. What a shame it is that big business with the help of the media also, through advertising breeds dissatisfaction and self-loathing, merely to promote their unnecessary goods by creating a felt need to have them. And when we eventually see the real live entity of the celebrity, our object of adoration, ( in the case of an actor or actress ? ) whose digital or celluloid image we canot separate from the fused impressions of them created by the script, the cameraman, the direction, the lighting, the setting, the story-line, the music, the editor, the make-up team, the PR and media hype, the bar gossip, etc., etc.....we stand transfixed as if they were superhuman or something. What an insult to them. And what an insult to ourselves as human beings. Dennis Lillee ? My foot. He was just a guy who loved a game. Big Deal. The so-called "celebrities" of this world, my brothers, are out-numbered by millions to one by the unsung heroes of this life, who get no medals or rewards, fortunes, kick-backs, pay-offs, write-ups, pics in the papers, free clothes, cars or certificates and certainly no recognition. They are for the most part the forgotten. If you listen carefully, they fill the silences in your life.
