Well Duck,
You think you are so smart but how little do you know.
First off, the TSA is authorized to open and search any bag that is transiting a US air terminal, especially if you are connecting to another flight. It also seems that the TSA loves to put little 'love notes' in you bag whenever they search them.
You know, the form that says we have opened your bag, wrinkled all of you clothes, broke the top off your shave lotion and dumped the bottle all over your shoes.
Now if you had read the 'Patriot Act' prior to it being passed you would have noted that that TSA is authorized to notify either Customs or the DEA of any potential contraband they find in your luggage.
Now in the 20-odd times I have traveled to or through the US, only once did my bag not have a TSA 'love note' in it when I opened it at my destination.
So it is not paranoia Mr. Duck.
How about this suggestion:
Next time do not comment on stuff you have no knowledge of, like the personal travel experiences of someone you have not accompanied...

I think the TSA has a few thousand Mexicans working behind the scenes just opening bags and sticking that little piece of paper in the bags – without really checking the bags. The theory being that once people think their bags are actually being searched will be less likely to put the wrong stuff in them.

I don't think it is appropriate to suggest that TSA uses Mexicans behind the scenes. It is approppriate to suiggest all bags are first shipped to Mexico for inspection before they get to the carousel you have waiting at for 4 hours!!!

The main reason that Thailand is targeted (if you are an unaccompanied male) is that they are looking for sex tourists who may be engaging in illegal activity (such as sex with minors). They are looking for child pornography or other evidence that you have violated the law.
If during the search they happen to find illegal copies of copyrighted material or excess counterfeit items (more than one of each type) that is just additional gravy, but not the main reason people coming from Thailand are singled out for search.
