As one who is married to a thai women for more than 10 yrs
i could write a book about the family  .

I have never been to Issan though mines from bangkok But its a never ending soap.

I was so pissed off at this concept - I didnt give a zack-
Here was my reasoning-
Do farang way or Thai way which one?
She said "I is Thai"..."you have to do Thai"
Farang way is make Farang House and Farang future-
Thai way make Thai house eat sticky rice ride motor bike-
Then she said "I want Farang way-"
I said"you is not dog or cow"..."i no pay for you same same buy"
"you not lick ball me...i no buy you sure"
By then she was saying "i not see cheap charlie like you before"
Then I said" father have to give me Cow one and pig two or I no marry"
By then she had the big stick out so I ran away-
Message is "DONT PAY"
You already have given them enough and believe me when pressured they want you in their family-
As it is they get the cream of the top endlessly-

Stay tough Blonk -
Never let them know you have money -
walk around the village with a bottle of chang at 7am and talk to yourself alot (add piss marks on your shorts - dont shave and laugh at the sky etc)
That got rid of heaps of them -

My father had a boat he took out of Ballina a small fishing port,in a sleepy but beautiful far northern coastal town 15 kilometers from his retirement house.
It was on a trip to byron cape a day short of his 75th birthday while reeling in 5 kilo kingfish, I broached the subject of being a Thailand fan.
He suprisingly, (as he always seemed to ) played it cool - and said-
"good son"..."they will educate you"
I at the time thought he meant "sexually"
If you knew my father, like me you would have left it alone-
But it was on the way home he said this battling a 3 meter swell to port-
""Elements son"......"sometimes you get f***ed over but...you think the catch was worth the trouble...is that right?"
We were really in no danger as my father had a strong vessel 18 meters with two detriot engines and large keel- but it was rough going-
I replied...""well we did ok dad"...And sure"
"Know the waters you operate in son"
(i am a professional boat driver- at the time a tug boat driver)
"yep got it"...i said.
He said "see that lighthouse?"..."always keep it in view"
My father died soon afterwards - but he meant more than the boating side which I was "he knew" many leagues above him.
