While I am sure that Frank's original post was a spoof ( at least I hope so) I am also sure that everyone here knows that sexual identity or preference is not going to be obvious at 20 months of age.

It WAS a spoof - I personnaly thought that any reference to a possible gay Teddy Bear would ensure the ludicricity of the post in the first place.
It was however turned into a serious debate about homophobia and psychoanalysis of the undersigned, which does not bother me but does not particularly engage me either.
However, I maintain the following point of view:
I'd rather have a straight son than a gay son, not for me but for him.
Why?
because I think fatherhood the real way, ie.e through procreation with the mutual intent to have offspring is possibly the most spiritual experince men can have and that it is an integral part of the purpose of being a man.
What follows is a laymans philosophy, but I believe this to be true:
A man by nature is expansive, on a concquest as well as protective and nurturing. A man wants to be immortal.
In due time we all learn we are not.
We do, however come to terms with our mortality by having children who will outlive us.
The act of procreation, the birth of our offspring and seeing them grow, sharing their concerns and help them allong the way is a significant part of what it means to be a man and it enables us to accept death when it comes.
Therefore, I am glad that my oldest son is not gay and nor do I think my youngst one is, nor the Teddy Bear.
Would I not love a gay son? Of course I would love him unconditionally - but with an underlying sadness for reasons above.
I can only speak for my self, but with these words I go back to my children and peace of mind.
What others on this thread do to accept mortality and find some purpose as a man I do not know, I hope you all find it in some way or other of your own.

Well OK then. I am corrected. You can choose sexual preference for your children and their preferences are clear at 20 months. I stand humbled by the master. I think you should write a book so that you can debunk all of the legitimate research (not to be confused with the religious fanatics) that has been done in this area and provide a "how to" description of the correct things to do so all children are "normal". You will be a rich man.
