You know what I mean, that crap on the threads about 3somes and the like. What web site are you copying your tips from ??
.......just go and get yourself a piece of ass....

Little Yokul...I got what I need. You can ask round. Guess that was before your recent 'coming'.

By the way, I don't copy sh_t. And if I post writing by others it's accredited. Hey if you think I am copying, maybe you figure there must be some truth in it.

But I admire you. Because we all know who writes your sh_t. No mistaking.

A couple more books with my two bit reviews:

Bangkok 8 - John Burdett
A kind of Buddhist Mickey Spillane detective story. Well written, well plotted and a good read. The only book of this genre i've read that really develops a Thai character and viewpoint.

Thai Horse - William Diehl
Same guy that wrote Sharkey's Machine. This book is just a long winded collection of B Movie cliches and horribly written (seems like an unedited first draft.) A real pain to get through and hardly worth the trip.

The Secret Agent - Francine Mathews
A formula thriller that parallels the dissapearance of Jim Thompson. Reasonably written and plotted, brings up some interesting half baked theories about recent Thai history too.

Thailand Joy - David Young
A sentimental story about a young woman's odyssey. Well plotted and well written. Might be too sappy for some but he really makes his characters come alive. I've read it twice.

The Big Mango - Jake Needham
I liked the premise. I liked the characters, I liked the beginning and the ending. But the middle hundred and fifty pages or so just seem to wander around aimlessly with little purpose.

Kingdom of Make Believe - Dean Barrett
I wanted to like this book. The seed of the plot was there, but I never did end up liking (or hating) any of the characters. I found the writing over-descriptive and ponderous at times. What could be said in three words instead takes a dozen. Some might like the poetic approach... but I didn't.

I just finished reading 'Losing the Plot' by somebody called Chuck Wow. Well written and bloody funny in places. He knows Thailand and it's not like any other Bangkok novel I've ever read. I read a review on another board and ordered a copy but haven't I seen it in any bookshops.....jim

In can really recommend Bangkok 8 by John Burdett. I am readind it now. I am not quite through it. To my dishonour, I have to admit, that I know many places he mentiones in his book

Very well written, although as someone whose mother language isn't English I had to look up quite a few words in the dictionnary.

1) Bangkok 8 - John Burdett. Yeah great book, well written, not the usual Thailand cliches. Ending a bit disappointing.

2) Fast Eddie's Lucky 7 a go-gos - David Young. Probably my favourite Thailand book. Fast Eddie, proprietor of the Lucky 7 A-Go-Go and affable svengali to a band of Chiang Mai English teachers who struggle to be decadent on 30,000 baht a month. He has also written 'The scribe' and 'Thailand Joy'.

3) The Vampire of Siam - Jim Newport. With 20 million US dollars in the bank, Martin enjoys a debauched lifestyle of sex drugs and rock and roll. He does however have a disquietening habit of chopping up hookers as well as the occasional paedophile. Like many BTF members he does have a soft spot for the girls from Eden that escape relatively unhurt.

In 1965 I flew S'pore Phnom Penh in a DC6 of "Royal Air Camboge" - and then PP-Siem Reap in a DC3. Happy days before Year Zero.

Chris Moores books can be a good read, sometimes a tad too much descriptive prose, but evocative stuff.

I'm afraid I find them a lot of pretentious twaddle - but that's just my opinion. If I went on to tell you what I REALLY think of them, I might get barred from this forum.

Pretentious twaddle? Gee, that's one of the nicest things I've ever heard anyone say about Chris' books......

Register another vote for Burdett's Bangkok 8.

I really liked the mix of traditional noir detective story with the typically Thai events and attitudes.

And I do like reading a novel set in places I know. The description in the first few pages of the police box at Sukhumvit and Soi 4 made me feel right at home.
