I think part of it is that English is not his native tongue. But as discussed in other threads, the Japanese tend to look down on other races, even other Asians. It was interesting to find out that Japan "modernized" China and Korea.

I agree , this thread has got a bit out of hand , it originaly was a question about Thailands involvement WW2.
For the record , re-read my post, I didn't say Japan was uncivilized, I was responding to Mr Alan's post regarding your claim that Japan had modernized China.
My reply was intended to be light-hearted.
I do not hate anyone, including yourself.
It's probably not a good idea that we meet, even though you seemed to be keen to meet people to show you around Bangkok, I'm sure others may wish to do this.
Have a good visit. I'll not read your posts in future , in case a similar rapport emerges.

Yes Bok Hah.....if you were talking about the Japanese of the Second World War the term "uncivilized" is totally inappropriate .
Barbaric, Murderous, Monstrous, Cruel, Atrocious, Horrendous; Inhuman are the more commonly used terms.
The bayoneting of patients at hospitals in Singapore, the machine gunning of nurses after their ship was torpedoed , the execution of prisoners of war by such methods as placing them in pig baskets and feeding them to the sharks does not even take us out of the final month of 1941 let alone the next four years of horror to which some 70 Million people were directly subjected.
As Basil Fawlty often said "just don't mention the war".

Most of the posts in this topic show only one truth:
who win the war is always right and who loose is: Barbaric, Murderous, Monstrous, Cruel, Atrocious, Horrendous; Inhuman are the more commonly used terms
Personally I don't think that "the bomb" vaporized those who attacked us without warning at Pearl Harbour, against those who have starved and beaten and executed American prisoners of war, against those who have abandoned all pretence of obeying international laws of warfare.
If I am not wrong "the bomb" vaporized civilians... nothing to be proud about.
And while the Japanese forces were already exhausted, I believe that the real target of the bombs (2) was to warn the soviet union which, at that time, was an allied. (the only one which didn't have to thank for America's support)
If you say in the states "Having found the bomb we have used it", when you are abroad you hear < we have the bomb and we are ready to use it again if we have to >
With the above I don't mean to take any part: we know what Japanese did but Americans weren't boy scouts as well...
In fact they won the war.
War is a dirty thing, loosers pay their fee, so why should I bless the winners?

by that logic, you shouldn't bless the brits, soviets, and americans for defeating the third reich. war may be evil and all participants bloodied but to suspend moral judgment on how WWII played out seems to aspire to a moral relativism that will group you with some pretty despicable people...

What is the difference between being vaporized and being killed by an American invasion of Japan to obtain their surrender? Millions of Japanese would have died (including civilians) without the bomb being used. But of course you probably don't think that the Japanese aggression against China, Korea, and the Philippines (among others) before WWII was any reason for the USA to start an oil embargo against Japan (which participated the attack on Pearl Harbor).
With regard to the future use of the bomb, I note that many other countries have it including the UK and France. France has violated test ban treaties many times in recent years. What you hear about the intention of the USA to use the bomb is only what the left wing media want you to hear.
Your comment that "who win the war is always right and who loose is: Barbaric, Murderous, Monstrous, Cruel, Atrocious, Horrendous..." is the true barbarism, a complete lack of any humanity or morality.

Given that all nations have committed acts of atrocity at some point in their history, would it not be better to regard war as a human activity rather than national ?War is chaos, and it is a little naive to expect the best of human nature to emerge under such conditions. The details or who bombed whom are largely irrelevant. More people died in the conventional bombing of Tokyo than in the nuclear blast of Hiroshima, 'vaporised' or not.
