Ok... stoopit is my first name. You rip a disc, store it on hard drive and then transfer it on a new disc (and delete from hard drive). What the F*** am I missing? You got the original movie on a disc to begin with, what do you need to go through all this hocus pocus to store it on another disc?

Not necessarily. If you got enough space to spare (I have 120GB in total) you can keep it on your HD (just like MP3s) and then play them through your Video Out (if your graphics card has one). No need to spend money on a DVD-R or DVD-RW. Only if you want to keep the movie for a longer time you can burn it to DVD media

Sorry to go a bit off topic....

Errrr.... so does anyone no a shop in BKK where the DVD seller knows exactly the quality of the DVD he is actually selling you?

A guy, who when you ask him to tell which ones are 100% clear, actually knows rather than tells you as he hands over the discs, to bring them back if there is a problem.

I, for one, would happily pay a Bt20 premium to a DVD seller that knew exactly what he is selling.

LY, you simply don't get it.....

The content on the DVD has nothing to do if it's a 5 or a 9.... Just like bargirls!

wrong again DL
read the below quote from my "Good Buddy" Yurune confirming what I said about DVD9 discs not being cinema handycam jobs...

The main reason I can see tto buy 9's (and I do) and I think someone else...maybe LY said this, is that ii have never had a DVD9 be a bad copy (ie cinema job).

Are you f_ckin' stupid or what, LY?

Yurune said that he didn't had a cinema job on a DVD9, but that's his personal experience. To say, it never happens.... dumbo!

And please enlight me, where I went wrong the previous time... about your stupid opinion that all pirated DVDs are Region 3 and pirate porn is Region 1?
Give me a break....

Abrak...there's one in panthip...she seems to know every disc....I asked her about 20 last time I bourght...things I was sure would not be master, she said yes and they were. Also was honest about what wasn't.

Now where is the shop....as you look at the second floor coming in (The big face looking at you from the balcony....front right corner). Girl has short hair, not pretty but cute in a tomboy kinda way. When standing at the store with your back to the doors, youd have one of the interfloor escalators at about 8PM.

My other fave place is La Lular in IT Mall Ratchada. We all know Noty had a problem but then he needs to plug his DVD player in. NEVER had a duff disc from there of any sort. Probably bought over 60 in that shop. 3rd floor top of the escaltor (but they switch so it could be top of the down escalator).

JA

You really are hard work aren't you. Maybe I'm copying the disc for someone else.

Maybe I'm copying a disk that someone else has that I want a copy of.

Maybe I just wanna clog up 120GB of hard drive with useless movies I already own on DVD.

What do you really care?

Wow, LY, I am not amusing you. It probably kind of hard to amuse you, because the only person who seems to be able to amuse you is yourself.

And why should I 'STFU'... you're the one with the stupid remarks. If there's three people who know the in and outs of pirated DVDs it's Yurune, Harry and myself.

Let's put a test question... for all of you to answer (LY I certainly expect a right answer from you) :

'What is the most used scheme (product) to protect DVDs from being copied and how are pirates battling this copy protection?'

The first to answer has my respect (especially DrDVD LocalYocul).

JA, there are shops that rent out DVDs. You might want to copy those.....

Just to confirm Yurune's approach, way to work out whether the guy/gal you are dealing with is being honest about quality is to use a bit of common sense. Go through and ask "Is this DVD 9?" and ask a few times. Then get to one/two that is the most recent release (still in the movie theatres) and ask "Is this DVD 9?" if he says yes, you know he will tell you his mother is also "DVD 9". Walk away and find someone else.

I will usually suss out about 3 or 4 places being going back to a place I feel OK with.

I had one guy in Pantip who was honest enough and said no the 'right times'. I think I picked about 10 movies and he came back with 6 and said he didn't have the other ones. I suspect his supplier confirmed they weren't 9's. I know where the store is in Pantip, but would be hopeless in trying to give directions as its where there is a large group of them up on the first floor behind the food area.

If you use the above approach and only buy say...2 to test, you should do alright..... and be more confident the next time you go back (presuming you have in room dvd or bring your laptop)

Cheers

Yurune,

I didn't mean to cause any sort of consternation. What you do with these discs is your business. As my name is Stoopit, I thought there was a big techical reason for what you were doing. Still, being stoopit, it seems you could just give the first disc to someone else or buy more copies in the first place.

Dr. Love,

The most used scheme would be one's conscience. If you don't feel good about buying a pirate copy, you won't. It could be because the quality is in question, the locale of where you need to go to buy it, the type of questionable character that is selling it or even that you truly do think that copyright infringement is against the law.

The pirates use the approach that it is cheap, it is victimless crime and these big Hollywood companies are raping the poor consumer by charging so much.

Both sides have their points but then every product produced should have the same logic attached. But for me, I don't like the fact that so many prescription drugs cost so much but in certain parts of the world, the supply of worthless fakes is threatening peoples lives. And how about fake aircraft parts for those nice 747's that bring everyone to the LOS? It is real comforting to think that maybe fake parts are being used to carry us at 35,000 feet.

I am not an evangelist but we are willing to plop down BT 500 for a barfine, can't see 500 - 700 being such a terrible price for an original copy DVD.

In the words of Forrest Gump (original DVD of course) "stupid is as stupid does". Or better, Kevin Kline in a Fish Called Wanda... "don't call me stupid!"

Of course Fish Called Wanda had Jamie Lee Curtis in it and as we all know she is the third sex. (oh, wrong thread)
