lots of police checks nowadays. breathelizers. 20'000 baht bail, court next morning. fine 5000, if no bail, spend the night in jail.
so careful, don't drink and drive.
applies for tourists, residents and locals.
best to drive a phat benz and you will not be bothered.

I just had to Get over to LOS the other week Family reasons I'll explain in a Min.
We normally get the same people to transport us to Surin in there mini bus as they do a trip every day back ad forth etc..
This time the price went from 3,500bht to 6,500bht WTF, the Wife payed anyway as she was lets say a little nicked in the head.
Ok it's a 12 seat Toyota Brand Bus new with the works, we get in and off we go as soon as we take the first corner not even out of the airport the airport police stop us!
Wifey tells the driver to explain to the police that she is her niece and her Mums just died that's why where there got the call the night before and dropped every thing rang up another Bkk tonite Member (Big Beefa) Thanks again MATE!
Big Beefa and his Brother have a Travel Agent out of Pattaya to stick me up with three tickets, two phone calls and we have ONE Hr to pack and make a four hr drive to Sydney and catch our Thai NOK, just make with mins only to spare.
 The dumb woman driver says Nothing just laughs and talks nice to the police, one opens the side sliding door and shines a torch on me and my son Falang he yells! door shuts no talk, 30mins later the driver gets back in and laughs? and is 2,000bht lighter!
I say Karma NAH 
That should teach them which it won't, Dumb Pricks!
Times are hard so they up the price Mentality Morons I say.
One thing I feel when Business is down then one should drop prices to attract more TURN OVER!
I'd rather sell 20 @ a lower price than 1 tour

Anyways off we go about 20mins later we get pulled over again, NO No No No NO !

Driver show the paper and the Police OH TO Mut Ok go!
Great get me home to our barn up country, I take a snooze as I can lay across the seats Great and I doze off, about an hr later it's on again road block again
I just cover my head and lay down I know better NEVER lose your cool but how much can a Koala Bear 
No charge Oh to much he also says!
Next time I wake where there and there's about sixty Thais drinking and gambling before, Mummy on ice in a big Gold casket and there is a Photo I took of Her last time she was Over in Australia blown up next to her Tears Flow
Funny thing she said she only had two more Years left when she was here (Australia)
Well we'd just flown for eight and a half hrs drove ten and a half hrs it's 15.30 Thai time 17.30 Aussie time and there all on the Piss so there was only One thing to do
Can't beat so join em!

So the minivan wasn't registered to have taxi service at the Suv and the airport coppers stopped and fined them ?
May be Thailand is going MADD like USA did during the early 80s.... don't drink and drive in most states and towns now...if caught over the.08 limit DUI / DWI... big baht in legal fees !.....many towns cops stake out popular clubs and bars too !.... but while with taxi driver ? shake down for more $$$ on the take !

I've never been stopped by the cops in Bangkok, but it's becoming a regular event when I ride my motorcycle to Pattaya. There's a Farang Shakedown Detail operating on Sukhumvit Road about 30 km SE of Klang if you're heading north. It's really getting annoying.
Three cops stand on the highway shoulder about 100 meters apart. The first two are on the right and, if you're farang, point you accross the road to stop where the third guy is (who speaks English).
The conversation goes like this:
Officer: "Let me see your license".
I show my California Drivers License, it's not a motorcycle license.
Officer: "Motorbike, left lane only".
Does he expect me to drive 130 kph in the bike lane?
Officer: "You pay fine or I write you ticket?"
Me: "How much is the fine?"
Officer: "How much you pay?"
Me: "200 baht", what I've always paid before.
Officer: "OK, discount for you", and I'm off.
As soon as the cops are out of my rear view mirror, I move back to the right lane and re-open the throttle.
They've stopped me 3 of the last 4 times, was pouring rain the other time. I get stopped the other way, too (towards Koh Chaing), but they just check my license.
