Siam Country Club in Pattaya used to have guards armed with shotguns stationed at the concession stand on 7 tee box and another about half way down the 7th fairway.
After thinking about it, though, Dirab Golf Course in Riyadh had machine gun emplacements scattered around the course and a 20 mm cannon at the front gate, all manned by Saudi Security Forces.

I was in Philippines couple of times....on those days it was a beautiful country. Not so many crimes on road, on foreigners openly. We were cheated on road while changing dollars. It was our fault. Last time in Manila, I stayed in a hotel and then after dinner, I was walking on the foot path to reach in famous La cafe. When I was coming out after few drinks, I could feel that people around me are looking in a different "sight ". I walked down faster to reach to my hotel very very quickly. After that I never been to Philippines. But, Angeles city is different, I guess. I was there, just for 2 nights.Thailand is much safer that way.

Working in South PI for nearly 2 years, and spending time in Manila on my way in out of work, I have pretty much stopped staying there if I can get a quick connection back home to BKK. If I do stay there, I have a few P4P giks that I link up with if I don't just go to Havana Cafe - across the street from the New World, where I stay. If I link up with the giks, I will go some other places, as I don't trust the taxi drivers that much at night and or someone Filipino to look out for me while I am away from the "bright lights/big city". Then again I was in Waikiki, HI and I didn't feel safe there either. I can walk down a dark soi in BKK and I feel pretty safe.

What about Jakarta or KL ?
I was only in the PI once over 20 years ago and it was a shitty place then, but I was with locals so thought I was safe,
But now they tell me how dangerous it is for locals, so I do not have a chance !
If Thailand has problems again it would be nice to have another place to go thats not as 3rd world as Cambodia - Laos

Nobody should be surprised by the level of personal violence which anyone in the Philippines is likely to experience.
Widespread poverty,the determination of a small minority of very wealthy Filipinos to maintain their domination of national wealth at the expense of the nation as a whole,endemic corruption which results in a large proportion of the funds allocated to national development being siphoned off,widespread tax evasion,no social security safety net to ensure that the most basic needs are met,easy access to firearms, a religion which encourages poor people to have children they cannot feed or educate,and which discourages self reliance by deluding the population that their prayers are all that is necessary to have God solve their problems,all cause and perpetuate a culture of violence.
This culture of violence makes Manila in particular unsafe,but Angeles City is reasonably safe with an abundance of cheap sex.

Yes, Angeles city is the only place closeby,and alternative. I do not know much about Cebu. That is also a place probably one can think. But Thailand is Thailand...no comparison.
