Just an update on this new British Embassy Visa procedure.
She applied on Wed last week and picked up her visa this morning.
Pretty good service, although we applied for a five year and for some reason the Embassy decided to only give us a two year.!!

Only one small problem, the application tracking service on the website does not seem to work.

Total price around 7000 baht inc admin fee. To me this would be expensive if you were only granted a one year visa.

i need a bit of advice from anyone who has done this,

as you only really have one go

i've known my TG for 5 years now and have a 3 year old with her (has british passport) I want her to come to the uk for 2 months so I need a visitor visa, she has a house in her name,

firstly what does a good sponsorship letter contain ie wording.

secondly my son has thai and, british passports, does he use the TP to leave LOS and the BP to arrive in uk and vice versa when returning.

will there be any problems with this?

thanks to all

I've done it many times..
Having a child together who has a british passport would I think almost ensure her visa, but to keep things right you will need proof of relationship, ie any photo's, emails plane tickets etc etc. This is to show you have known each for some time.As you say you have a 3 yr old son which proves this but nevertheless still take other stuff as well, believe me they will ask!!

You will need to show you have enough funds to support her. (last six months bank statement) a copy of your passport showing all your exits and entries into Thailand.
She should take her papers showing ownership of the house and any bankbooks etc. Also a letter from her employer (if she is employed).

As for the wording of the sponsorship letter you should declare that you will be sponsoring and be responsible for her for the trip. Explain you re the father of the child. State where you are staying ie your house or a letter from relatives if you are atying with someone else..

Nothing too long winded and you should be ok. Only apply for a six month visa (it's cheaper).
Your Son should travel in and out on his british passport no hassle. You cannot travel out on one and in on another ! and if he uses his Thai one you will have to get him a visa as well.

Most of the info is on the website..

Good Luck

Your son should use his UK passport at all UK immigration, and his Thai passport at all Thai immigration.

You should show both at the check in desk.

I am not sure you only really get one go. Mrs Shreddie had three tries - she failed with the first one and succeeded with the second two. That was a few years ago.

Her first visa attempt was for the holiday visa (that this thread is about I think) with me as her sponsor. That failed, grounds given were that there was insufficient evidence to demonstrate that she would return to Thailand. (No land, no house, little money in the bank, no job to speak of (casual work), her only tie to LOS was her daughter who remained up country).

I prepared all the paperwork and it was a good package of documentation; nothing wrong with it - just no way of proving she would return to Thailand at the end of the term of the visa.

Visa attempt number two was a few weeks after the first setback. This time she applied for a visa to come to England as my fiance to get married in the UK. The package of documents I prepared was the same - because I was damn sure there was nothing wrong with it the first time. The first application did not fail on the documentation. Mrs S' situation was no different - still no land, no house, no money in the bank, just her daughter up country (and her daughter not part of the application). This time the visa was granted - no concerns about whether or not she would return to Thailand because as my wife in the UK that would not be a concern of the Embassy staff in BKK.

Mrs S came out to the UK and we had that holiday together that we were unable to get before when the first visa attempt (holiday visa) failed. At the end of the fiance visa term Mrs S returned to Thailand. The trip to the Uk had been an opportunity for her to meet my family, for my family to meet her, and for Mrs S to see England, sample the weather here, and decide if she could live here.

The third and final visa application was also for a fiance visa. Exactly the same M.O. as with the second visa - it was also a fiance visa. This time at interview she was given a grilling. She was inteviewed by a man and also, I think, the lady who is mentioned earlier in this thread. She was asked why we had not got married in England when she came over. She explained, truthfully, as did the covering sponsor's letter that I provided, that we had used the first fiance visa as an opportunity to meet my family in the UK and to have a holiday and to decide for certain if we could get married etc. That we had wanted to do that when her first visa application (for a holiday visa) had failed.

On this third occasion my wife's visa application was also successful although the Embassy staff warned her that if she did not get married in the UK this time then after her return to Thailand there would be no further visa for her. We did get married this time and we remain happily married.

Incidentally, at all of her interviews my wife was interviewed alone. Her appointments were timed so that they took place when I was not in the country, but that could just have been co-incidence. We agreed that honesty was the best policy and for us it worked.

Doesn't the 'we have a son together' be open to interpret "She has less reason to return to Thailand"?

Also, I would add some snippet that gives a reason for her to return. Something like "She will need to return to Thailand on, or about, (insert date) due to her son's starting school/her buffalo harvest/etc...."

Just my devalued $0.02

Baskboys advice (Sep 6) is very accurate and as he says this info is all on the (Embassy) website. I succesfully applied for a visit visa 3 years ago, with my application being pretty much as Baskboy describes.

I arrived at opening time, my TG had a 5 minute interview on the spot and we collected the visa later the same day. I was with her while she was being questioned but she did all the talking - which was in Thai anyway.

Even though it was reasonably obvious we hasn't met in a temple I think it was pretty straightforward because we had all the things they were looking for - the big three: you've known each other a while, she had a reason to return, and and I had funds to support her stay.

My sponsorship letter was fairly long winded compared to your draft - but essentially it was just a narrative explaining the items I had bought along to back up the application.

One tip, treat it like a job interview and dress smart. I saw a couple get turned down just before me, the guy was wearing beach shorts and flipflops and his girl looked like she had come straight from a nana gogo. Hardly suprising really.

Good luck

It may be a good idea to take both passports but I don't know about using the Thai Passport through Thai immigration. If you don't have a UK visa in the Thai Passport then I'm sure you would face problems.
