Quote: from DrLove on 5:21 pm on Sep. 10, 2004 'What is the most used scheme (product) to protect DVDs from being copied and how are pirates battling this copy protection?' The first to answer has my respect (especially DrDVD LocalYocul).
RPC II = Regional Playback Control (Phase II) although the vendor/pirate can make UnCoded discs that work in any player (RPC stores just eight bits of data on the disc = easy to hack), most times the DVD player can also be easily programmed to ignore region codes with a few undocumented remote-control key sequences and for Reqion 1 (N. America discs) RCE = Regional Coding Enhancement RCE can be circumvented as simply as playing a standard Region 1 disc for a few seconds before inserting an RCE-protected title very funny DL, and also a controversial topic. please stop being derogatory...

I asked for the scheme of copy protection, not regional coding. You're out, no bonus points and no respect either.

You're not talking about Macrovision, are you? Not only is that a 'gimme', but it's so old that defeating it doesn't even taken any effort - so I'm assuming you can't be refering to that. Harry

Quote: from jack attack on 4:05 pm on Sep. 10, 2004 I am curious why you want to rip a movie and put it on a hard drive? If a 9 or 5 is the storage holder, what good is it to put in on the hardrive and take up that space?
Playing them back from your notebook hard drive uses less battery and thus let's you use your laptop longer, and still watch DVDs on longer trips. Enabling caching can extend that even more. DVD drives use far more power to operate, than hard drives in laptop computers. If you're into this kinda stuff, you could also keep a couple of favorites on the drive, and make copies for your friends on demand. Harry

As I guessed, Hzink would come with the right answer. Yes, it was 'Macrovision' and yes, most DVD rippers remove it without almost any effort. The point was to see if LY knows really where he (and we) talk about before making stupid remarks about other people's posts. Point proven. LY I said scheme (product) to copy protect DVDs. RCE (although a scheme) has nothing do with that. Now who's the fool, monkey? Respect for Harry, banana for LY!

nice attitude DL , but again you're barking up the wrong tree even Zink thought you meant something else. and you are still not covering all the bases, there other Schemes out there. now that I understand what you mean by Scheme besides Macrovision Analogue Copy Protection (ACP) there is also : Content Scrambling System (CSS) and of course the one I mentioned, Region coding normally Region Coded discs also include CSS protection, but CSS is easily hacked and we all know Region Coding is easy to be circumvented. None of this makes my earlier point any less valid, and even Yurune agrees that DVD9s are normally NOT handycam sh!te. I've had much better luck with the quality once I ditched DVD5s and started to buy DVD9s exclusively and I got a banana for you, a wooden one

The latest releases are all the new movies, they put them generally in the 'new' movie section. Most old movies are already on dvd, so they are not many coming.
