The were 'boors', not wild pigs, by the way... (speaking of facts)
Neither is right. It's Boer.

There are a few variations to the word "boor". I know it as "boer". DD knows it as the "Boor War", I the "Boer War" and Cenn3 as the "Boar War". No need to get caught up on spelling. As much as you might say they aren't "pigs", you could also say they aren't "a boor" - as in rude without manners. I agree with scobie - this stealth "invasion" of pattaya by American special forces with bad intel on camouflage is an immediate threat which must be addressed.

Quote: from Cennn3 on 1:42 am on Aug. 3, 2005 So the people in Grenada had a coup between themselves and because of the acute danger to some medical students the USA invaded the country. Yeah right seems like a good reason to invade a country to me. Is that the American version of events. And what has it got to do with the USA if a country has a coup or civil war. NOTHING. Just like Vietnam and Korea and Cuba. Nothing to do with America. It is that the government of America does not like communists.
Really? We seem to be getting pretty cozy with the Chinese, and they are about as Communist as they come. Also, last I recall, the Russians are now our friends, and technically while no longer Soviet, they have not really renounced Communism. Lastly, I can almost assure you that if those medical students had not been in Grenada, the US would have done far less (though, if the killing were to go on, the international community would have called for US intervention, as usual, only to condemn the US after it does as it is told.. a common theme.
Quote: from Cennn3 on 4:28 am on Aug. 3, 2005 No they didn't invade them, they bankrupted them.
You can't bankrupt anyone without them being a willing participant. If anything, they bankrupted themselves by trying to keep up with the US, in an arms race they could not win (it was all about 'face') -- kinda like the US (stupidly) is doing with China now. China says they will go to the moon - the US immediately makes plans to go to Mars. If nothing else, the Chinese have studied history far better than the Americans. That being said, Cenn3's pretty much as anti-American (and blinded by it) as he claims those disagreeing with him to be pro-American apologists. If Grenada had been an invasion, why isn't the US firmly planted there, still?

Yes I agree. The invasion by the loud voices and even louder shirts is undermining the whole fabric of Pattaya nightlife as we know it. But how is this invasion to be repelled? Will the resident Brit thugs and low-lifes, the Scandahooligans and German occupied Naklua be able to put up an effective resistance? I think not. Pattaya is surely destined to become the next Tijuana.

I’m certainly not as well read as some of you in here, but I really don't think the U.S. is getting "cozy" w/ the Chinese. It's all a front. From what I’ve heard the Chinese government has implemented a rather slick choke hold strategy of unloading eye-widening investments in major geographic choke points on the globe, which has got the U.S. government paranoid. The U.S. understands if a future confrontation were to occur it could pose a serious problem for them. Tensions are compounded with the whole Taiwan issue, which has got a lot of people on edge, especially with a Chinese General recently making statements of being prepared to go nuclear if that problem gets out of hand. I believe the situation is made to "look" cozy because both governments are attempting to play the Godfather in the situation. In reality, both governments are hard at work trying to figure out how to out-strategize one another as to come out on top. If they can do it without getting physical great, however, most American political experts predict an inevitable future physical confrontation and I would bet that Chinese experts would find themselves agreeing with that statement. Of course, I hope that will not be the case.

China S, Your quote was "Hawaii did not have any troops involved in the removal of the Hawaiian Royal Family, they were ousted by a group of Missionaries " and even your own quoted source disputes that. The marines attacked under orders of the local US rep Stevens, therefore it was an invasion, not a coup. If the US govt thought Stevens was acting without orders they should have returned Hawaii to its rightful government. The US needs to fix its own government and laws (ie implement democracy) instead of exporting their imperialism around the world and you should help with that instead of becoming one of the US's apologists.

I have avoided posting on this thread until this last statement from our friend RM. From whence does this ridiculous claim about "imperialism" generate? If you had said the US was exporting "freedom" then you might have been correct. I'm with CG here. Please share with us your country of origin and let us decide if your government is doing anything worthwhile in the world. Your comments are invited and don't call me an "apologist". I am a true red, white and blue American and damned proud of it. I am equally proud of the US liberating some 50 million people from the Taliban and Saddam regimes during the past three years. No apologies from me.

CG and ExpatC, I am Canadian (Rye = Canadian Whisky), and I dont usually have much use for my government, however at least they had the balls to ignore the US call to "liberate" Iraq and they concentrate their meagre armed forces fighting in Afganistan (Remember that Bin Laden guy.... the guy who actually is the enemy). All I want is for the US public to be taught the truth about how their foreign policy has made this planet a much more dangerous place to live. Rye
