No real or definite evidence that the guy was British, drunk, mentally unstable or dosed up on drugs.
Nationality is irrelevant, as is the rest of the speculation, although I do agree that Britain seems to allow a large percentage of its yobs to visit here.

What the importance here is, is the reception and treatment he instantly got in a co-ordinated but unplanned manner, as if they were ready to act like that, as if their repeated physical assaults on him, begun by a young hothead, was an expected thing within the cultural norms and expectations of the bar.
And when I say that, I don't mean the degree of ferocity or violence. I'm raising the point why so different, so instantaneous, without a prelude of even asking him to leave the bar.
In my opinion, his behaviour was confrontational, aggressive and objectionable.
The swift reaction of the whole group of Thais indicated that they were just waiting for a situation like this, in which to express their feelings about foreigners and this was one of them gloriously presented to them in the privacy of their own bar by an idiot.
His fault was that he didn't keep in mind that he was displaying this vulgarity in a country where there is no law properly administered, and that in order to obtain redress or some form of justice, you act swiftly and effectively, because that is your one chance, so you have to make the first strike count, or in this case, the first, second and third.
If the Thai guy at the bar who was being shouted at and physically intimidated called for the police,or the bar service staff or owner called for their assistance, they would most probably end up seeing the foreigner leave unredressed, themselves being screwed for it for many months to come, so rather than laying themselves open to police extortion or further shake-downs by the BIB, they act on their own, ensuring that the transgressing foreigner doesn't walk away free after such a display at their expense.
