It may be a good idea to take both passports but I don't know about using the Thai Passport through Thai immigration. If you don't have a UK visa in the Thai Passport then I'm sure you would face problems.

Why??

It is nothing to do with Thai immigration whether they have a UK visa in the child's passport or not. It is however the responsibility of the airline. Hence why I said to show both at the the check in.

If any questions are raised by imigration show the second passport, but you cannot show the UK passport to leave, how can Thai immigration stamp the child out of a country he never entered? (yes there are ways around that but not relevant here)

It's easy, use the passport of either country at it own immigration. Then you require no visas etc.

Daffy as you recognise is correct, the key to any visa application is showing that the applicant is coming home.

Another few comments about the letter

It tells me nothing about you.

Where do you live?
How will you support her?

You need to tell a bit more of the story, yes, the information maybe obtained through wading through the application and supporting documentation, but it's like a CV.....hit the mark on the first page and show them what they want to know without all the effort.

Do not be offended, but I'd give you 3 out of 10 for the letter.

I once successfully applied for a factory worker who earned 7000B a month. She'd have been clueless on her own, but by having her paperwork in order, she sailed through.

Isaan K- I agree with Yurune.

Your draft letter makes it sound (to me) like you want to pay the Embassy a bar fine to take your lady home.

You need to include some personal info about the relationship as well as all the formal stuff about means of support etc. Also key is to demonstrate that your lady has strong enough ties to LOS to satisfy the Embassy that she will return home. Land and/or a house in her own name is good, so is evidence of a proper job with a salary to return to.

Not sure if interviews are still carried out or if it is all handled by post now that a lot of this work appears to have been outsourced. If your lady is interviewed, then at interview she will no doubt be asked questions to help to establish the strength of her economic ties to LOS, but you could help matters by mentioning these ties in your covering letter. You may find that mentioning them in your letter steers the course of the interview. If your lady brings along copies of bank books, land title deeds, etc. to her interview she can also produce those at interview.

The only tie Mrs S could offer in support of her first application (which was for a holiday visa) was her young daughter who was remaining in Thailand. That was considered not a strong enough tie by the Embassy staff. The Embassy staff wanted to see economic reasons to return.

My sponsorship letter besides mentioning the obvious;

Reason to return home - land, property.
How she will be supported - bank statements, and a letter from a relative stating we would be staying at their house.
Proof that we had known each other for more than 5 minutes - telephone records ( in your case a child should be more than sufficient!)

Also a little bit of background information - a reason for wishing to visit the UK and what our future plans with each other where.

Make sure that your girl is fully aware of the contents of your letter so that her replies to questions will mirror what you have already said in writing.

I honestly feel that if your application is genuine and you have done your homework (as to what they require) you will have no problems.

IMHO.... they they are primarily trying to ensure that that HER reasons for coming to the UK are genuine and that she is not intending to dump you once you clear UK immigration. They will have seen every trick in the book, and will know if your girl is trying to pull a fast one even if you don't! They will also reject your application if they find any reason to doubt it.

A friend of mine is having real problems getting his wife of 10 years (not Thai but asian) a UK (residents) visa despite them having several kids who all hold UK passports. He also owns property in the UK and has several hundred thousand in the bank. Why is he having these problems - because they weren't totally honest in there application and got caught out.
