Charlie,
what is your favorite water hole and I will look out for u

No problem, Dutch or English. Lots of good English brew, too. I drink anything but American (except some micro-breweries like Anchor Steam or Sam Adams). Gerard certainly seemed a good sort, we shot the bull for a few hours. I'll be hitting Nana & Soi Cowboy starting Thursday thru next Tuesday. See ya around

There are two types of people. Those who live in Pattaya, and those who wish they did.

Hey,

I resemble that remark.

I keep reading in this forum that comment.

But I am confused (not native English speaker). So, my question is: should it be "resent"? Like in "I resent that remark."

I tend to think now that it should be "resemble." After all these guys are native English speakers,... but checking the dictionary meaning for both words: resent and resemble..... to me resent would seem to make more sense.

In normal conversation, "resent" would be correct.

As a play on words, I believe "I resemble that remark" was coined by Grouch Marx as a way of getting a sympathetic laugh by acknowledging a slight bit of truth in a mild insult.

Yes, that's correct. You bet your life. And Mrs. Claypool really is rich, too. I'd wait for her till the cows came home. Better yet, I'd wait for the cows.

But, please explain: "Why a duck?"

And I want to change my vote to Bangkok now that that's where I am. It's just the greatest, except for Freedonia.

Gee, do you think I could meet up with Thelma Todd at Lucky Lucianos on Soi 33? Ooops, I resemble that remark.
