To those who know about this tech stuff (that excludes you LY), I have a question:
I have no problems with DVDs. But I do with some VCDs.
Somehow I concluded that the problem may have been a very old version of ASPI files. And decided to update the ADAPTEC ASPI32 drivers. Please remember that I have no clue about these stuff besides what I read around the net.
I downloaded the file, unzipped it, rebooted the PC and voila. All of a sudden I was able to watch this VCD that before I couldn't. But this worked only once and with that VCD only. It didn't work with all the others that before didn't work. Worse yet, after for one time making that one VCD work, I again can not get my CD-ROM drive to recognize it.
Any ideas?

I have no ASPI driver installed (well, actually before I started to rip DVDs) and I think you actually don't need one to read VCDs.
The Windows Media player has a built-in codec (MPEG2, I think).
Smegs, I guess there's only combi drive in your computer (DVD-OM, CD).
Also, my DVDROM didn't had support from a ASPI driver and plays VCDs perfectly (I have two drives (CD-ROm burner and DVD-ROM).
But when I burn VCDs from.dat files and burn them at a high speed (24x or higher) my DVD player has problems to read them. My Samsung VCD/MP3 player reads them without problem. Are these VCDs burnt by somebody else or bought in a shop?

My problem is even before I get to the media player. The computer simply gives me an error when even trying to get to see what files are in the CD -forget playing them.
I am sure if I had the same files on a hard disk, the media player would play them. It is just the dvd-rom drive that is not seeing the disk.
The error I get is that the cd is not formatted.
