Ahhhhh
The truth....
it is out there isn't it?

Brace yourself, Basher....
It is not. Out there is only-- perspective.
However, you are free to interpret that as you so desire....

They look like sex-tourists with their badly coordinated clothes, loud voices, bright red faces, mullet hairstyles, and pot bellies, but it's obvious to anyone with an ounce of intelligence that it is in fact an advance force of the US Special Forces, probably doing some kind of reconnaisance against the growing domination in SEA affairs of that evil communist regime in Cambodia.

Hmm not sure about that considering they supported the last evil communist regime in Cambodia. (along with the brits)

but then again didn't china sailor say he was "ex" special forces, and he's been hanging around a lot lately so you could be right, although I have no idea if he fits the description of "badly coordinated clothes, loud voices, bright red faces, mullet hairstyles, and pot bellies,"

To Cennn3, Ryeman, griffin, scobie and their ilk -
I agree a discussion of Iraq and U.S. foreign policy could be carried out in a better place than the Anything Else? thread.

In the Z Forum, I posted some suggestions for ending the conflict in Iraq as well as poverty in the emerging world. The title was, "A Modest Proposal, 2005." I would be very interested in learning your reactions. I'm sure your ideas would get all the respect they deserve in the Z Forum.

Just out of personal curiosity - Do you guys feel at home in the coffee shop of the Grace Hotel?

ah!

so now I understand because saddam bribed the un and most of europe and the other g8 countries they were not willing to participate in iraq! sure that makes sense!
and because afghanistan is a poor country and couldn't pay bribes to european governments and the un they were invaded!
thank you for the explanation! now I am happy to understand that the european governments can be bribed and the us government is the only one acting out of pure generousity.

Griffin:

I am happy to see you have finally learned about the lack of cooperation from Olde Europe in the period preceeding the Iraqi War.

Isn't it nice to finally get the glow of knowledge on your face again? Just like your college days, huh?

I am Canadian (Rye = Canadian Whisky), and I dont usually have much use for my government,
That makes two of us.

... however at least they had the balls to ignore the US call to "liberate" Iraq and they concentrate their meagre armed forces fighting in Afganistan.
Hey der, considering your country doesn't have the armed forces to escort a little old lady across the street, opting out of the Iraq war was probably an easy choice. Also, it probably would be tough to relocate the three guys that make up your army from Afganistan to Iraq. (just kidding)

The only fear of invasion in Canada is from the US, the rest of our neighboors have learned long ago that territorial conquest doesnt work in the long run.
Easy to say, when you do not have to worry about defending your country against attacks. BTW, last I looked at a map, you have NO neighbors besides the USA.

Enough kidding around about our little brother to the north, back to your original statement:

Quote: from RyeMan on 12:02 pm on Aug. 3, 2005
The US needs to fix its own government and laws (ie implement democracy)
A democracy like Canada has? I thought Canada had a confederation. And I thought Amereka was a republic. Anyway, RyeMan, what fixes do you have in mind? What laws does the U.S. now have that you would abolish, and what are the new ones that should be put in place?

So the people in Grenada had a coup between themselves and because of the acute danger to some medical students the USA invaded the country. Yeah right seems like a good reason to invade a country to me. Is that the American version of events. And what has it got to do with the USA if a country has a coup or civil war. NOTHING. Just like Vietnam and Korea and Cuba. Nothing to do with America. It is that the government of America does not like communists.

Really? We seem to be getting pretty cozy with the Chinese, and they are about as Communist as they come. Also, last I recall, the Russians are now our friends, and technically while no longer Soviet, they have not really renounced Communism.

Lastly, I can almost assure you that if those medical students had not been in Grenada, the US would have done far less (though, if the killing were to go on, the international community would have called for US intervention, as usual, only to condemn the US after it does as it is told.. a common theme.

Quote: from Cennn3 on 4:28 am on Aug. 3, 2005
No they didn't invade them, they bankrupted them.

You can't bankrupt anyone without them being a willing participant. If anything, they bankrupted themselves by trying to keep up with the US, in an arms race they could not win (it was all about 'face') -- kinda like the US (stupidly) is doing with China now. China says they will go to the moon - the US immediately makes plans to go to Mars.

If nothing else, the Chinese have studied history far better than the Americans.

That being said, Cenn3's pretty much as anti-American (and blinded by it) as he claims those disagreeing with him to be pro-American apologists. If Grenada had been an invasion, why isn't the US firmly planted there, still?

Daffyduck: That quote: No they didn't invade them they bankrupted them: that is not my quote Brokenleg wrote that.

As it happens I am not Anti-American, I just do not agree with the foreign policy of the USA now and in its history. I think the Americans have given this world many good things and in their position as a super power they could do much more to help the poorer countries. I hope they change for the better in the future and make this world a great place to live in for everyone, not just the well-off.
With your reference to Communists, I was talking about the history of the USA when indeed they did not like communists not the present day.

China Sailor
Actually,

The only two nations that the Americans invaded for the purposes of imperialist expansion were Mexico and the Lakota Nation (specifically the Badlands of the Dakotas).

The rest we received through purchase, treaty, voluntary annexation, or as war reparations.

Not to say that the above did not possibly involve some lying, cheating, and outright thievery but before you condemn the Americans do consider the colonies, minorities, and ethnic groups your governments tortured, killed, and stole from before you cast your stones (even the Swiss have some skeletons in their closet).....

Unfortunately, you have just describe the invariable development of any super-power -- any culture that has become dominant has first been ravaged by corruption, only to be torn apart by self-serving interests. While I certainly enjoy living in the US (still the best country to live in), I do not agree with a great many decisions made by the present government (or, to other degrees, with former governments).

The Iraq war being the least of my concerns, but the non-action w/regards to Iranian nuclear development, the laissez-faire w/regards to NOrth Korea, and the utter ignorance and stupidity with regards to China are far higher on my list of what should be priorities...

You can always go back in the past to gain support for any argument - we live in the present time.

Well I was talking about the history between the Americans and the Communists, and when that is the subject you really have to go back to the past to get an argument because it is history as in the past. And yes I agree with you- We do live in the present, I am glad we can agree on something.
