well... hardly that quick - I was in thailand in the 1980s, and began the Investigative biz mid 1990's, - after almost 10 years have passed leadership on and reverted to an advisor role - and have been asked by numerous authors to write memoirs, - I chose Steven Leather to assist me, as he spends plenty of time in Thailand, has a similar sense of humour to me, and knows what it takes to write a best seller - this book is entertaining, and also points out many of the pitfalls facing farangs and TGs ! - however, we are still in the writing stages, but yes, Xmas is predicted for release.

I have read several chapters of the original draft and it has Stephen Leathers easy style all over it, and I like the way it cuts from the current story to more of TPE's personal history and observations.

It could well become the new BKK newbies handbook, replacing that one with all the letters that I've never read. (only because I don't particularly like that format in a book)

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this book (I'm toolazy to read through 8 pages) but I have just finished Bangkok 8 by John Burdett. It's a thriller with a Bangkok policeman who is a devout Buddhist tracking down the killers of his soul brother. I found it a great read and it is set in 2003 so there are many familar places mentioned.

WATCH THIS SPACE as the saying goes.....
Steven Leather is in my opinion as good a writer about Thai/Asian books as you can get, His reputation hopefully is enhanced in a few months time, when 'moi's' memoirs hit the shelves, - what may have been a pretty boring read, is brilliant thanks to Steves assistance. - It is a must read for anyone EVER involved with a TG ! - should be out for Xmas.

I have just finished reading "Private Dancer" from Steven Leather. A really outstanding book. I couldn't put it away once I began reading. Does anyone know wether the mentioned places "Zombie" in NEP and "Fatso's Bar" existed and what became of them? Do they exist today under new names? And is the German restaurant near Dynasty Inn possibly the "Heidelberg"?

Zombie could be any NEP bar but with that name is probably based on Voodoo. Fatso's is Jools Bar further down Soi4

Yep and the large man is based on the owner.
Jool's has quite an expat clientele.

I have just read this book. I enjoyed it. I particularly liked the way the insights about Thailand came through the eyes of the characters rather that just a straight descriptive narrative. John Burdett has either done his research well or knows Thailand. Some perceptive illustrations on LOS.
