I call a vest something that comes with a three piece suit.
You got the trousers, the suit coat and the "vest", a sleeveless garment that goes between the suit coat and your shirt (with or without long sleeves).
I think what you guys are referring to as a "singlet" would be what we'uns call an "undershirt", as opposed to a "T Shirt" which has sleeves.
The "undershirt" does have the ubiquitous spaghetti straps and no sleeves as previously mentioned by someone with greater knowledge of these things than I (or is it"me"?).
These "undershirts" are generally worn under another shirt, thus the name, and are normally not designed for evening wear.
Some of our citizens have not taken this approach to their personal decor, choosing to wear nothing over their "undershirt".
Perhaps when they do not wear a shirt over the "undershirt", it becomes a "singlet"?
I am getting a headache.
