Hello,
It's almost time for me to start packing for my trip! I understand in May it will be quite hot and humid in BKK. What are the acceptable attire for Go Go's, MP's, discos? Can I wear shorts, T's or polo shirts, sandles in Go Go's? Or should I stick to slacks and shirts? Any comments? Thanks.

Shorts are okay in MPs and Go-go bars. As for discos, put on some slacks and shoes. Some discos will not let you in if you are wearing sandals. Some night clubs will provide you with trousers if you are in shorts, e.g. Pegasus

I wear sandals almost exclusively. Should I plan on bringing other shoes too? I presume that sandals are fine for MPs and bars, no?

Well guys
This is very much a matter of opinion. You do need to remember that BKK is a city not a resort. Whilst you can wear just what you want, I prefer not to look like a tourist/tripper. So a night it is slacks and shirt for me. You don't see many shorts during the evening action. I am much more comfortable to look part of the BKK scene, not a tripper in shorts and sandles. But that is just me... no strong view but for you to consider.

as for me being european i tend to alsways have proper clothing with long sleeve shirts. me experience is that the girls do very much appreciate a porper dressed , well shaved and good smelling type of guy (don't forget your after shave) as they usually hate cheaply dressed people. it is not a question of money it is just that thai poeple will respect proper dressed people much better, than an abvious tourist in sandals, shorts and t-shirt!

sorry forgot to add, that in my opinion it actually does not increase the price for the gilrs when you are properly (expensive) dressed but decreases it, as they assume that you are a "good" guy with nice hotel / condo so for them means more probably having a good time with a customer! Think about it, after all most of them are woman how like to have the immagination of staying with a nice guy, good dressed and good smelling! It really does wonders!

A very interesting topic. Good points.
My opinion is very similar to the others that have been posted.
I think that dressing like Bangkok is a city and not a resort is a good rule of thumb. But, just dress like you do at home, as long as it is appropriate. If you live on a nudist colony, then you will have to put on some cloths!! ha ha ha!! But, other then that, it is a balance between what each feels comfortable wearing and what is appropriate for that situation.
I do not think that a coat and tie is neccessary, but I also don't think showing up in a tank top, shorts and slippers for dinner at a nice restaurant is appropriate.
I wear shorts in the daytime and khaki's or jeans at night. But, sometimes I still wear shorts at night if I am going to the go go bars. All other places I wear long pants.
I think that the women tend to like a clean cut, well mannered, good hygen males. And if prices are going to change they will drop instead of increase if you are clean cut and smell good. I even had some females make me spray my cologne on a piece of paper so they could take it with them. Whatever makes them happy!! *smile*

Yeah, these are all good points everyone, thanks! This discussion really gave a good sense of the feel of BKK.
I understand not wanting to look like a *complete* tourist (I stand out enough as it is, believe me). Usually, I dress pretty onservatively when travelling, ditch the shorts, wear long sleeve shirts that do double duty with sleeves rolled up for the bars, or rolled down for a nice night out on the town. Still, my feet hate to be imprisoned. It's a crime! Just don't look at my feet cause I'm going to be wearing sandals!

My personal view on this topic is that the TGs pay very much attention on how potential customers dress up. Not few times I saw TGs avoiding guys wearing shorts and slippers as they think those guys are cheap Charlies from Kao Sand Rd. It is hilarious to hear bits of the TGs conversations when they gather together in some dark corner of the bar commenting on the guys sitting throughout the place. Yes, this isn't happening in all cases but my advice is to wear pants, a shirt and look clean in general terms.
No, they won't charge you more because you wear a shirt instead of a round-neck T-shirt or short-pants at a GG bar. Except Spassos and Rivas, where a neck-tie means a plus of 3.000. According to my appreciation, this is a kind of sub-culture among them. Why? because these TGs have certainly a very weird hierarchy on a micro-environment such as GG Bar. In this way, the most "respected" is the waitress, followed by the dancers which wear something on, and finally the ones that don't put anything on. Yes, the naked dancers receive a bit more money, the same of the ones that perfom the "shows"....e.g. 1-2 K more for the shows at some bars in Nana. These issues lead the observer to realise on their own experiences. You can see the behavior of some cuties dancing naked and compare it with the ones wearing something (on/off stage), or see the way how they approach the bar tender or the waitresses at the GG Bars.
Yes, this is weird, but sometimes when you feel got enough of the same stuff every day you become an observer and enjoy few times sitting at the bar looking the life passing by....not to mention few nice talks with several TGs.
