hey guys,
when i got to thailand in august, i was thinking of going in suits and wearing my gold chain and watch etc.. to get the girls flocking round me even more, but..
has anyone found that dressing like that makes places charge you more for looking loaded? or doesn't it make any difference? cheers anyway

I don't think wearing suits with ties, gold chain and gold watch will make the Thai girls flock around you. They will only frock around you if you have a FAT WALLET and throwing tips like sweet wrappers.But it would be foolish to be a big tipper unless the services rendered is really good.

You don't need that image in LOS. What you will need is to change your shirt and shower a couple of times a day. Bring shorts with you, as the other guys have mentioned BKK in august is like walking around in a sauna I would leave your gold chains and expensive watch at home. Why tempt a poor girl with expensive baubles. At home I have a Rolex but when I travel I use a cheap Casio.

shorts are certainly okay, if you want to oust yourself as a typical american tourist. dresswise as mentioned in many topics before go with decent shoes and light trousers. just use your common sense: a suit is absolutely over the top and you call for a rip-off, shorts are a usually perceived as "cheap charlie". So as with many things in life somewhere in the middle is the most apropriate way of dressing. but shorts and t-shirt for me is an absolute no!

Gotta agree with you there griffin.
Holiday gear in a city, even BKK, gives off all the wrong vibes and I think would be a big turn off. Smart casual always makes me, and I hope the girls, feel more comfortable.
