I'm a big photos person and like to take as much as I can. Is there anything I am not allowed to take a photo of? Some cultures don't like photos as they believe it 'takes the spirit' away.

Are there anything I should steer clear of?

Regards,

Daniel

NEVER take any photos of military bases, normally it is posted. I normally also ask if I am going to take pics of people, just out of common courtesy.

And of course, don't take photos in any nightlife establishment without asking permission from the right people.

Also have noticed the department stores (Robinsons and Central) have "no photo" signs posted.  Too bad because most of the girls that work there are stunning

That's a good reason to take them out of the store and back to your room then, isn't it?

MrNobody:
The "stealing a persons soul" by taking a picture happens more often with the "older" generation.

** No flames because I used the term older now!! ** ha ha ha!!

I only ran into problems with taking pictures in the 80's when I went to mainland China. I've never run across the problem in BKK, or even Taiwan or HongKong.

Anyways, something to be aware of is not to take images of females with other guys. So ... if are going to take of random females/people it's a good idea to make sure they are standing alone. You would not want some guy to hassle you because he thinks you are spying on him or something like that.

And as the other members have stated, that  usually inside the G-clubs, MP's, and Go Go's they do not like pictures being taken. You could try to sneak a camera into these places, but I would not suggest doing so.

And taking of a military base is just plan stupid!! ha ha ha!!

Just take the female or females back to your hotel and then at your leasure you can snap away!! ha ha ha!! Oh, it's always best to ask the females first anyways. Many do not like their images taken, so do not take that personally if some say "no" to your request.

Now ... now!! Does someone need a "time out"?? ha ha ha!!

I might look young, but I was old enough to walk around without holding my parents hands!! ha ha ha ha!!

Keep this up and I might only pay for one drink at Club Orbit for you!! *wink* ha ha ha ha!!

Have a good one.

Thanks for all the replies...

Thanks for mentioning the military establishments one, it never occured to me I should avoid them but then again I never had any intention on snapping them.

My main areas are the Thai culture/religion. I'm not a pro photgrapher (I'm VERY amature come to think of it) but I just love to have things to remember my trip by.

I will be taking pictures of 'areas' rather then individual people, such as a cluster of street venders or buildings, temples and general touristy sort of stuff.

I guess as long as I exercise common courtesy, then taking pictures of people will be ok.

Once again, thankyou!

MrN.
i also like general photo's,but the one thing i wanted to video,i did'nt in the end.

took a girl to Wat Chalong on Phuket.
she asked if it was ok for her to go and pay her respects to Buddha?.
i would have liked to film the entire process, just for my interest, but as other people also paying their respect,i deferred.
i did'nt want to upset any of the locals by standing there filming.

if my girl had been the only one,i would have asked her if it was ok.
