I am quite new to this field but I would appreciate very much, any advice from brothers here on starting a new sidewalk food stall here in Bangkok.

Am looking at potential spots such as NEP, Suriwong as well as Soi Cowboy. The food that I am interested will be Asian Fusion/Thai and targetted to tourists and bar hoppers. The heavy daily/nightly human traffic here will definitely a boost as the food I intend to sell is a inexpensive snack and impulse based. I will set t up this roadside cart stall with young attarctive local girls running it.

I need your assistance and advice on permits, space rentals, etc. Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you.

You have the

Local food vendor maffia, the police, the maffia, the goverment for tax and work permit to pay. Then you have to find a place to stay and they will hunt you down it you take a already taken spot. Do not do it.
Waste of money

Import/Export is a great way to make business in SE Asia. You can always start small. It might take 2 or 3 years to get contacts and customers. If you listen to customers demands and are upfront with them, the sky is the limit.

Ask yourself,

1. "Do you want others to only think of you as a roadside vendor?" They will after a few months. You become your business. That means chicks will think of you that way, guys on this forum, thais, etc. If you dont care what others think about you and if thats ok, no problem.

2. "Will you be happy in 3 years still busting your ass for 500-1000 profit a day?" I had some friends do a similar thing in thailand, and after 3 months they gave up. If thats ok, no problem.

3. " Do you love selling cheap food to people on the street?" In the beginning, to love what you do, and the hope to make it bigger is the only thing that keeps you going.

Word of advice. Since I was 23 I never worked for anyone. I have started many companies mostly in Hawaii. If you want to know a tough business climate for westerners, come over here. More problems with govt, prejudices, schemers then I have found in Indo and Thailand. I started a business that I knew would have an upside. Worked hard as hell and loved what I did for a few years, and then it all came. I still love what I do, but I will only start a business that targets people with money. Otherwise, its a waste of time for me.

Find something that you love to do and have talent for. Start small, work hard, find others that will help you, strive to beat the competition and it will come.

Since I was 30, four years ago, I have never really worked a day of my life. I go to the bank, walk the company dog, smooze with big customers over a round of golf, yell at factory managers once in awile. Design things and travel. Your money should be an investment, not working your ass off for the rest of your life. I'm also good to the people that help with my business. Give them the ability to have power and make choices. Hell, I bought my manager a Jag last year.

If you dont have and sink or swim attitude in the beginning, forget it and go work for someonelse. But in my opinion, never start a food vendor business!

My problem are the girls. Need to stay focused and away from the models. Maybe, I will figure them out one day with the help of this forum and life experiences. Cudos to the forum.

I would suggest you start out with extremely good food at a very low cost.
