Okay, on advice from a learned friend and in comapanionship with said learned friend. We went to Fortune Tower to buy some dvd's for him to take home. I usually dont buy many if any, but decided to buy a few kids ones and some recent movies I missed at the cinema, 8 all up. Anyway, 7 out of the 8 did not work when I got home. They make a funny clicking sound in the player, it says loading for an extended period and then comes up 'no disc' but one dvd did work fine. I took them all back and the very friendly girl showed me on a player upstairs that they all worked ok, she was correct, they all did.But she went on to explain in not great english, but better than most, that some dvd players have a device that can lock the head of copied movies. Some play, some do not, it just seems that most of these did not. She tehn swapped them all for new ones of the same movies, but from a different batch. Now when I get home, only 1 is working this time, so now it is 6 out of the 8 not working. If so, why do some work and some do not. All other dvd's I have bought work fine and the other 2 work ok. Does anyone know what the deal is with this ?? can the problem be fixed ?? these dvd's are dvd9's also, the first time I have bought these, so what is happening and is it a recent pirating counter meausre. How to fix, prevent buying these in the future. It is a pain in the arse having to return each time they do not work to swap.

first, your questions... "Does anyone know what the deal is with this ??" yes, and you can find out too.. " can the problem be fixed ??" maybe, or most certainly, depending on how much money you're willing to spend... the quickest, but not cheapest way to fix this ploblem (BG speak / or MN speak) is to take one of those copy DVDs to a DVD Player sales shop and start popping the phucker into players until you find one that will play it and has all the features you like. DTS, DRC, DSP etc. then buy that unit and sh!tcan the old one, or donate it to "the committee"... anyway, another way around it is to hack the player. Do a search for the player make and model along with "hack region free" and you should find a hack somewhere if you dig around a bit. Here's an example and no, most times it's not even a hardware hack, but some key combination that you have to punch into your remote etc. my Sony hacked out just fine, and also my Samsung player. ===== BTW, I'm assuming it's a reqion problem/ploblem, as that's normally the biggest issue with these things, even for your DVD-Rom in your PC (or Zink's MAC) I had trouble with Zone 1 discs prior to hacking the players, but no longer.

What brand is it? It is known, also from my own experience, that older models of Samsung and Pioneer are not able to read pirated DVDs. DVDs which didn't work on my friends Samsung, worked without a hick on my Sony N303 (which 'eats' everything including CD-R etc). It doesn't depend on the disc, it depends on the model player. It has something to do with the head. My Sony is able to adjust its head to adapt to the disc. It also has nothing to do with 'region free' because most if not all DVDs in Thailand (the pirated ones) are ALL region. It seems that DVD9's are very sensitive to the position of player heads. Buy a new player... they come as cheap as THB 2,800-THB 4,000 for a brand name like Sony or Pioneer. Take your DVDs with you and test them. If 4 work, you bet the other 4 will work too. I have never had a problem with pirated DVDs myself (bought around 30 of them).

well, not where I'm at in LOS. Most are in Asian Region Zone 3, copies from Malaysia, the porn however comes from Zone 1, USA/Canada. and yes, buying a new player is a good idea, but it might be worth trying a hack first, seeing as how MN is such a phucking cheapskate 555 just kidding...

Thanks for the info, except from you Finit, you know fcuk all about anything, so go away. You know what you have to do arsehole to be respected, even then the respect you will get is ignorance. So go back to your cheap arsed budget models, I bet you even try to get the cheapest crap available at duty free shops as well. Tight arse, or thats what your gf's at soi 33 and cassanova say. Anyway, to all else, My DVD is near new, last year it was the latest model JVC, like I said, other dvd's work fine, in fact all have up until this batch of dvd9 from fortune and now 2 of the 8 work, so what the fcuk. I will take a couple into the shop where I bought it and see what they say about the machine itself and fixing the ploblem. I dont want to buy another machine, the little bugger is new for chrsit sake. , lol fcuk you, if I wanted shoes I would live in the cold country. So, I give this dvd player away and buy a new one, good idea until I then buy new dvd's and they dont work in this one either, different dvd's may or may not work in different players, so it seems.

Just buy a new one. Don't be so cheap. Sell (or give) this old fancy -but not working- model to somebody and buy some shoes with the money.

Have a phillips player too... not many problems with most DVDs, but I did have a batch of DVDs getting stuck, but had no problems when I took them back to the shop. Yeah, those cheap Soken thingies will play any damn DVD.

For your information it's called a laserhead. It is where the laser shoots its beam from. And yes, it depends how this head is located.... Dumb ass.... Even the clever ones like ManuelBKK and myself know Philips is a Korean brand! We're from Philips country ourselves! Oh, yeh, another smart ass. LY.... do you really think these pirated DVDs are copied from the original DVDs? No, these are ripped, copy protection removed and then burned region free. Also porn DVDs are ripped and are not DVD 1s! Perhaps you could take a day off from the board (appreciated by many of us) and make a field trip to Pantip or Fortune Town.

There are a number of the Japanese Players around (nearly all made in China or Malaysia) that "hint" at the fact that they play just about everything. Panasonic has one 5 Disc Machine (Singapore made) that does play nearly everything I have bought from Cambodia, Vietnam, China etc. Look for "multi-format", -R and -RW support & multi-system tags!
