were any of you stationed in Thailand during the Nam? In 71-72 I was at Camp Samaesan in Sattahip. This is 25 miles south of Pattaya. I was with the 313th and 260th Transportation Companies.

there are still a lot of veterans around my area
two passed on (R.I.P) earlier this year unfortunately, but they had some kick ass stories, ones about Patpong too
One of the fellas was a bonafide war hero, & had written some books about the war. Had a visitor from the UK doing this number  when he met him
The VFW has a chapter in BKK as well as PTTY
if you check the PattayaMail you can see where the chapter there is meeting
Another fellow I know was in his teens during the war, so he's still relatively young & has some kick-ass Patpong stories
Actually, ExpatChuck & some of his mates have some damn good stories about Patpong back then

During that time period I was already out of the Navy and working in the artic. Two one month vacations a year so was running the streets of Yokosuka Japan. God I loved that place.
In the late 70's was working in Saudi. I was in a very bad accident on the Dhahran - Abqaiq highway. Anyway after I got out of the hospital it was off to LOS for rest. Got off the airplane in the morning and headed for Patpong, Executive lounge. The beer and the pills I was on put me out of it. Mamasan asked a girl to take me to the Hotel and take care of me. She played nurse for 3 or 4 days until I was able to get up and get around and take care of myself. These lovlies do provide other services and she was compensated very well for her help.

I am a military historian, historical preservationist, and a membe rof the Calif State Mil Reserve. I am writing a book on US bases in LOS during the war. There is a new wave of interest among younger people and the war. The War in Iraq has, no double, fueled this interest. Even Nam computer games, rairsoft.re-enacting, and collecting are becoming very popular.
My book will be an anthology of experiences of common soldiers stationed in Thailand and full of light-heartedness and humor. I will be there Dec. 15-29 and for 4-6 weeks in May and June to visit bases. Any help would be appreciated for travelling to bases and interviews.
