when is it in 2005? I saw the official date is April 15th on a website but do the festivities start the week before or after? Where do you suggest going for Songran...BKK or Pattya?

Songran goes on for seven days in Pattaya. It's always a good idea to have hotel reservation in hand before you arrive. Yes you can bring a water cannon into Thailand. Just don't declare it. Check out http://www.pattayatalk.com for accurate up to date info on Pattaya.

I recommend staying home, its a pain in the ass, a bunch of drunks acting out their 8-year old military fantasies with water guns.

while you opened another thread to ask about booking a hotel during Songkrahn 2005, you opened it under the same section of the forum 
why didn't you just ask the question about hotels in this thread, post the thread with an indication that you wanted to talk about hotels in the title, or just post it under Hotel issues ??
why on Earth would you want to bring a plastic water pistol into LOS when they are sold every 100 meters in BKK, Pattaya, & Chiang Mai for a dime-a-dozen ??
Songkrahn is from 13-15 April, just like every year, but don't be surprised if you get wet in the afternoon or evening in BKK or Chiang Mai on the 12th, & in Pattaya you'll be wet the entire week
I noticed your mention of low season in your other thread.
That is not entirely true, as some people make their way to LOS specifically for Songkrahn
You might just be shocked at the amount of tourists splashing about in Kao Sahn road in BKK, or on Beach Road in Pattaya
oh, and the Song in Songkrahn isn't prononced like Song (i.e. Sung with music), but is instead a very short Song. If you can imagine saying Song without the "O", that's what it would sound like, SNG-Krahn

i advise not to carry it in hand hand baggage !!!
i am talking from experience leaving bkk airport last Songkran, I will be in town next year as well.
It lasted three days in bkk I only got wet once (coming out of the Angara turkish bath they got me on the corner of New Petburi/soi 4 After 7.00 pm it had stopped, it does carry on in Pattaya though
