Anyone seen the “Butterfly man” movie?
There is an Englishman, Adam, coming to Bangkok with his farang lady, first time. They break up the first day and go separate ways. He goes to Samui and meets a young Thai masseuse called Em. He butterflies with a local BG. He didn’t know Em works for illegal business of human trafficking. Em goes to him at night and poisons him to sleep after they had sex. She leaves. Then all his money are stolen by a criminal. Then all things started for him. To tell the long story short, Em is dead after she being severely injured by the farang criminals, she was saving Adam's ass. Adam ends up in Em’s village in Isaan, keeping his promise given to Em to support all her family. The last scene – he is fishing with the net, wearing a Thai hat.

What do you guys thing of this movie plot?
Adam definitely had nothing to loose.
When he called home from Samui, no one agreed to send him money.

In the beginning of the movie, when Adam is hiring a took-took, the driver shows him a card advertising body massage. I noticed it was “Cupidy” name on the card.

Em’s hair is long and stylish, like a perm, a bit curvy, looking expensive, same as Thai movie stars like to have. No other girl in the movie had such hair. Only poor Em.

When Adam is at the edge with no money, the BG he was once with, comes over and gives him a thousand bath (or more?).

The plot sounds crap and it's either the way you told it, or it doesn't sound plausible.
Apparently he was so smitten with this MP girl, that he keeps his promise to support her family in Isaan, even though she arranged for him to be drugged and robbed. To support them, he takes to fishing, although he knows nothing about fishing in that environment. Perhaps the family might starve if they left him to provide the food! I'm sure that they'd rather have the money from him when he gets his half of the house following the divorce from his missus.

Perhaps the BG he was with needed to give him 1000 baths because he stank a bit having roughed it in Isaan.

Did the BG come from the same village in Isaan, or did he meet her back in Samui? Or maybe he phoned her and begged her to send him some money. Now that would be a novelty, a Farang asking a BG for money! Personally, I think he should hitch up with the BG, as she seems to be a tart with a heart.

There is always a problem with fiction where the writer doesn't fully understand the subject.

Private Dancer is good because it is very real and well written.

"Butterfly Man" sounds poor because it is fiction that doesn't add up.

You guys are too picky.

Just thought to collect some comments from the IMDB site.

"Notwithstanding the negative comments of others, I was pleasantly surprised to find it was a compelling film. Low budget, and a bit simplistic, but nonetheless very moving. With her broken English, Napakpapha Nakpprassite conveys a beauty and vulnerability that was extremely effective. If you want to see a movie that captures the life and the beauty but also the desperation that you can find on the islands of Thailand, skip "The Beach" and watch this instead."

"I just saw this film in Thailand last week. Having been to thailand for 7 years since the age of 23 I found this movie to be almost spot on. Everything in this film has either happened to me or I have known people it has happened to."

"I left the cinema speechless and in tears. So many issues are brought in to this movie and done very well.

I guess you would also have to have been all over Thailand to really appreciate what a good film this is. It's good to know that I'm not alone in my Thai experience. Like the character Adam I am not a naive person, but as a westerner living there your world quickly turns upside down. "

"I just have so many stories to tell. This movie sums up much of it. Even my last visit a couple of weeks ago to the "Full Moon Party" did not go without incident. That's another story!"

I found this movie incredibly moving. And having been to Ko Samui, I feel it captured everything about that incredible place-- the beauty of the island, the fun nightlife, the friendly faces, and the sad stories behind it all.
I had seen "The Beach" when it came out, and it was a total disappointment. I recommend this movie to anyone who has been to Thailand and wants to recapture its spirit, and I also recommend it to anyone planning to go there.
An excellent film. And Napkpapha gives an amazing performance."

I'm going to give the movie a try.
