I was just wondering if any days or dates in the Thai calender were considered to be lucky/unlucky.

Thanks.

...well, I think for the Thai girls - "when they are up on all fours " - that time of the month...!

Apparently it's bad luck to get a haircut on Wednesdays (no joke).

Not sure if that's a Thai or Isan belief.

Adding to the local knowledge.

My TGF tells me it is unlucky to get your hair cut on Wednesdays as well. In addition her birthday is a no-no for cutting hair. Her statement..."Thailand believe."

Her good luck day for haircuts is Monday.

also

the head of your bed should not face South or West, but East or North if possible

this has to so with the directions they place a body when cremating them, and of course it lies deeper with the whole dTawun dToke, Neuah thing (West/North)

the head of your bed should also not point towards the bathroom

a 4 meter by 4 meter square room is considered a Hong Pee (Ghost Room). No idea why

you shouldn't whistle in your house at nights, it draws the ghosts

there's heaps more, just can't think of them right now

quite a few things to consider when building a house

expect to face the front of the house toward the ocean if possible and the rear should be facing a hill or mountain

oh, and don't put your house right inline with the local temple, cause the smoke from cremations might float into your house, LOL

I guess that's the reason why they don't want to be directly aligned on a N/S/E/W line with the nearest temple (in viewing distance)

you should never measure a person's height with a tape measure, that's for bodies, not living folk

same goes for crossing (stepping over) another person's legs, torso, or head if they're lying or sitting, that's only done to bodies (not the living)

don't ever assemble cribs, beds, or any other child care accessories before the baby is born, you could jinx it into a miscarriage
think this one is universal, round the World

you should leave at least one light on in your home at night, preferably one at the front/entrance
supposedly this is good for the dweller's luck

there's also a lot of things that are supposed to bring you good luck, unfortunately sometimes it's due to another's demise, the old Chinese Ying/Yang idea

if someone crashes their car (fatally) maybe their license plate number will hit in the next lottery

if someone dies, many will place bets on the lottery based on that person's birth date, death date, or age at death

if you spot a snake crossing the road, it's good luck for you

Interesting one I've come across, adding a couple of years to the age written on the coffin. die at 29, write 31. Apparently to add extra life, give a couple of years of fun before leaving the earth.

Pregnant women shouldn't attend funerals.

dirty guru
Ly is quoting a singapore not thai custom on crashes, as appeared in bangkok post on singapore gambelling habits...infact the first is hindu indian..and as it reads with a thai (educated ) girl from the north..she is lost as to who said this to you. I am in the villages at night. Its a graveyard..dark as nil lights. The sleeping arrangements are as deemed to be comfortable. Ghosts are sure a worry to them. But whilstling never heard? And really the average villager is "'as thick as a brick"' They do believe in lucky numbers...lottery is big time. But none understand odds against. And havent heard of jesus christ..or give a f*** about friday 13th....maybe why the place seems less f***ed up to me.....interestingly on LYs case (borrowing lines or stories bangkok post singapore crash stories) The bangkok post Or nation ? Had a cartoon of the pope in a condom with thousands of aids sufferers in the background saying how infalliable he is yesterday.....its a validid point.

actually, I've seen TGs, old and young, scoot on over to the recent fatality crash site to copy down the license number (s) of the car (s) involved

According to Dan Brown in his book Da Vinci Code, the unlucky friday, 13th, goes back to the mass arrestation of the Templars in France during the 13. October 1307.
Unlikely, that there is something comparable Thailand.
