Any brother has experience in buying or selling golf club membership in Thailand as a foreigner?

Any landmine?

Where can I find more information about this topic?

There are no real land mines in buying one. They can normally be re-sold when you can find a buyer.

The clubs around Pattaya will sell on the market for anything from 100,000 baht at Siam Country Club to something in the 400-500,000 baht range for Laem Chabang.

I don't know about BKK or Phuket but I expect they are considerably more costly.

You can normally check in the Bangkok Post Classified section and see some for sale.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Expat,

I did browse through the BKK Post classified. There are couple of small blocks containing the membership buy and sell. Not a lot though. I was just thinking to collect more knowledge before I make any call.

So that means there are no foreigner levy? Of course I expect there will be transfer fee.

What do you consider the nicest course you have played at down that way?

I loved Laem Chabang CC when I played it, just beautiful, but most of my golf has been in Bangkok, Lam Lu Ka being my regular stop.

I am not that particular about golf courses, I usually avoid those upmarket type. (such as Alpine, Pinehurst, Panya Indra, Lam Cha Bang.....), all I want is a quiet and enjoyable day without spending a lot. Therefore my assessment may not be accurate.

I do not mind to play most of the courses that I have played. However one I would not recommend is the Windmill. I think it is too expensive and very crowded. I guess its reason of high place is just because of its close proximity to BKK.

I played Lam Luk Kar once. It is very obviously a popular and well managed course. But other course has other advantages also. Bangpakong may be farther. But it is more quiet and a few interesting and challenging holes. And it is cheaper.

I used to like Natural Park Hill and Phoenix. But they all have their pros and cons.

I quite agree, I'll play anywhere, and my standard of golf dictates that I should only play at the 'nicer' courses under supervision of an adult....

Yurune:

The plushest and perhaps most eye-appealing of all the courses is Laem Chabang. Having said that, I don't really like the course. I have always felt that the Nicklaus courses I have played have been artificial and contrived. They just move too much dirt around for me.

I guess my favorite course is still Siam Country Club. It seems to flow with the landscape much better but the fairway bunkers are a killer. I wish they would re-sod some of the greens with something other than bermuda grass but that's the way it has always been.

Bangpra in Chonburi is also an oldie but a goodie. The greens are incredibly fast (normally) but the course is older and better established than the newer ones.

A lot of guys here like Burapra and Green Valley Rayong as well. I tend to go with the older courses as favorites.

Eastern Star is a good layout but maintenance is poor and the course is not in particularly good condition. The same can be said for Century Ban Chang. Eastern Star is a Robert Trent Jones design and Century is a Nick Faldo/Desmond Muirhead design.

Pattaya Country Club is another that is just fun to play. Nothing exciting but it is fairly cheap (400 baht green fee until 10/1/05) and it is close to town.

Hope this helps.

Looks like there are enough people in the forum having played golf in BKK - Chonburi area.

But none has been a member, which is the original discussion topic.

Well...at least we kept it reasonably on topic.....no...none of my golf playing friends are members, even my mate who plays 5 times a week.

Perhaps I can answer my own questions after my trip next week.
