The other day, while driving to Hollywood Blvd, I nearly drove into another car, when I saw the brainchild of Dove's (the soap folks) latest campaign: Real Women have Real Curves.
There, on the side of the H'wood & Highland center, were two HUGE drop-down banners showing what I thought were unpleasantly chunky (they call it 'curvy') women, strutting their stuff.
At first I thought it's for some new movie, or an advert for Lane Bryant (clothing for chunkies), but as it turns out Dove has decided to 'celebrate the real beauty of real women', by hiring 6 'real' women (in fairness, they are not actresses/models), to appeal to all the real women out there to strut their stuff in their underwear on big posters.

None of which, I might add, are remotely attractive (except, possibly, Sigrid, who seems cute).
Notably absent from the lineup of 'real' women - an asian woman.
This campaign's stated goal is to celebrate the feminine form, in shapes that are real, as the shapes pushed by the fashion and commercial industry are not 'realistic'.
Clearly, the authors of this campaign have never been in Bangkok. I have an odd feeling that this sort of campaign would backfire badly in Thailand, or other asian countries.
Actually, this seems to also be the fate of the campaign over in the US, where it was greeted by derision and sarcasm by the radio and television media commentators and social gadflys.
...and while I can understand the direction the advertising agency comes from, in terms of talking to their target market, I believe the campaign is lame, as well.
Then again, the aforementioned omission of an asian women pretty much tells all.

Of course they're not attractive. That's the point. The pitch is to women, fellows. They're supposed to look at these pictures and say, heck, I'm as good looking as that, and then they'll buy the product.
Anyway, the pictures are all over Manhattan and...well, let's just say that using the word 'chunky' is pretty diplomatic. Not to put too fine a point on it, but the models are a bunch of fat, ugly pigs. American women are going to love them.....

Well, time to set the world right, I might add -- as the males of the species, which is the part that the women really just pretty themselves up for, it's time for us to point out, every chance we can, that none of these girls are remotely attractive (especially the proud standing heiffer second from left).
Yeah, it's aimed at women, but let's not forget, the real target is US, the men.

Another attempt by Madison Avenue to manipulate the American mind to set a new standard.
A year or so ago I read an article that discussed the increased demand for 'real people' in American Advertising. The reason was that there would be less 'Buyer Remorse' (read that Returns) if a more realistic image was presented.
This is taking it to the next level. Assume that you manipulate the taste of American Males to prefer 'Curvy" women. In that case you can dump the Supermodels with their outrageous demands, large fees, and high maintenance. Being that your pool of 'Curvy' women is much higher there would be more competition and lower costs.
(Maybe we should have our resident conspiracy expert Hermo check it out, it would keep him busy and out of our hair)
That being said I have seen some very petite asian women who are quite curvy and do not need the fat to make them that way...
Edit In.. I now recollect that the first time I have seen the description curvy given to women is on this trip behind the Big Mac curtain and it seems to replace the terms 'Plesently Plump' and/or 'Somewhat Average'.

Ghastly would be my word. I feel insulted twice by this campaign.

Oh yes and I have to mention just now that when you mouse over each of them; Gina strikes me as a complete self-absorbed bitch & Julie is like some sad cry for help.

Anyway the first insult is the visual assault resulting from having to look at the distasteful eyesore. The second insult is to me as male.
Oh yeah and I should add that it is sickeningly manipulative. I am I guess based on this supposed to start getting into ugly fat chicks...f*** that. 
Hollywood is increasingly derided as is Madison Avenue in this country. They are so arrogant as to think that they can always manufacture consensus amongst us. They have a lot of work to do on my genetics however to make me want to sleep with these Tele-Tubbies...
Let's face it unless you have some sort of fetish for fat skanky MILFs you will readily tell anyone how you really feel about the campaign. I mean even their faces look like shit. So if I as a man tell most farang women how fugly these skanks are then I am deemed a pig or insensitive. 
This opinion of me as a pig does the farang female no service. I may be a pig but as BigDUSA made clear it is quite desirable in LOS to be a "sweet pig", and bad attitude farang chicks sleep alone or take the leavings from their Thai sisters.
I wonder if any of these mingers is married, can you imagine how the poor bastard must feel. Think of the repressed feelings... Let's share an intimate moment alone with the "happy couple":

I digress though....it is just that this particular kind of shenanigan really pisses me off brothers. I get really annoyed at the attitude that I am supposed to accept a lack of self control and self induced failure. That I am supposed to be attracted to some beached whale and think it is a good thing or there is something wrong with me. It isn't just the sloppy fat that turns me off it is the bad attitude that goes with it. No they look completely unattractive to me. Anyone woman resembling them is really below 3rd tier on my natural scale, I was born this way.
It would be a kindness to the whole sad line-up on the bill board to pay for a trip to 30 days to Pattaya or Phuket for the "girls" to see how far their "tons-o-fun" back-fat rolls and thunder thighs get them on their nights about town.
Girls night out would be a kindness to them. Maybe then they'd sober up and drop the sack of corn dogs...
If I here that f***ing "goddess" crap out of one more of these vapid Cali girls I'm gonna puke too...

A bit off topic but this post has reminded me of the movie The Quiet American . If you recall the scene where Michael Caine is sitting in front of the Continental Hotel having breakfast (right before the bomb explodes in the middle of the street). Caine is people watching, noticing the beautiful Vietnamese ladies passing by him on the street. As he sits there enjoying the scenery, he notices at a table near him a couple of old, fat, white women stuffing their faces in thier ugly dresses and rich woman gloves. It was no going back for him at that point as if he had discovered the new norm in a totally different life.

You can always tell the guys who never got much traction with women in their home countries. I guess for the guys who bad mouth these women it will make up for all the turn downs you get with non P4P women who are not economically poor and don't have to go with lame guys.
I've been to a number of RT and very few of you are buff good looking guys with a personality that can keep a women who speaks the same language, similar education and culture interested.
