Fellas,
I am coming to Bkk soon from downunder, here all clubs and pubs check ur Id for age proof. Is this practised in Bkk too? If Yes, will a photocopy of passport do or I need to have original handy with me.

cheers.

LMFAO! In Bangkok (or all of Thailand for that matter) your age is judged by being white. If you are white, they just wave you on in. Don't bother or worry about carrying an I.D. or making copies of your passport.

I send my 3 year old to the market 3 doors down to buy beer all the time. No I.D. required. 5555!

That's not true. They are being more and more strict. I've seen farangs get carded at several clubs. Carry around a copy of your passport in your wallet, that will work all of the time.

Wrong. You will not get into the better clubs without proof of ID.

I'm sure that's not one of Greenslime's worries, then...

A little off topic but further to Tyfon's post about being required by law to carry your passport with you at all times.
Is this really the case?I have only ever heard about it on this forum.I have been to Thailand 15 times and never carried my passport around with me,always left it back in the hotel safe.Admittedly I have never been stopped by the police but in all the travel guides and t.v programmes I have seen (and believe me I have read and seen many) this is never mentioned.Just like to know the facts before I next visit.

this is true the law says u most have your passport with u at all times. many punters have been taken to the police station when bars where raided in both pattaya and bangkock bec, they did not have there passport with them. have to stay at station until someone can get it and bring it to the police for u. big story last year in thai newspapers about this and the number of punters detained -u can find it at bkf if u look,

Stu is absolutely right on all counts. Strictly speaking a photocopy is not acceptable. Punters were hauled off from QBar about 6 months ago because they did not have their original passports on them (only photocopies). But on other occasions photocopies have proven to be acceptable.

I can MOST certainly confirm the requirement to carry your passport. I was 'ARRESTED" at a night-club just outside BKK in an area called " OM NOI" for not carrying mine!!!!
Ended up costing me 1,000BHT but my arguing nearly cost ne more including a threat of possibly having trouble in the future entering LOS.
Anyway, one bad experience after 12 wonderful trips isn't a bad ratio.
