While I am not a newbie (having visited BKK only twice), I am travelling in Sep and need some info. This time I am staying a bit far down Sukhmvit for a week and am interested to know if I can get a combination pass for the BTS and MRTA for a week. It just saves some time waiting in multiple queues and though I am not a cheap charlie, It would save some baht which I can spend better PS: I do know only about the 100 Baht BTS daily pass. Any info would be appreciated. Regards Dennis the Menace

Hi, Dont know abt MRTA, but I take the BTS almost daily. The cheapest way is to buy a 10-15-30 trip pass. For 250 Baht you get a 10 trips pass valid for 30 days. See also: http://www.bts.co.th/en/ticket.asp Because BTS and MRTA are managed by different companies I think there is no combi-arrangement possible ! Cheers Tilac

If you're doing a lot of travelling, the best option is a 30 trip ticket for BTS for 540 baht. Still valid for 30 days. You can also buy a stored value card for the MRT system. I believe you can put any value you like on them - the benefit is that when you swipe your card on each trip, it deducts the fare at a rate a few baht less than if you bought individual coupons. The money isn't the issue.. as you say, it's the convenience of not queing. No combined BTS / MRT ticket yet but as the govt seems intent on forcing a marriage between the two systems, it's likely to happen in the future.

For me, the best for BTS is: SkyCard / Stored Value Ticket. Put 100 or more baht on it (I believe they no longer charge a 30 baht fee to get the card), then when it gets low or runs out, you can go to the window and add money to it. You can go to the window "inside" or "outside" the turnstyles. The window "inside" never has a line". When you exit BTS, it shows your balance. In this way, I never wait in line for change for the machine or to buy a ticket. As scobie said, the subway is not on the same pay system. But there, you do not have to use the machines, just go to the window and tell them which place you are getting off (if you go to Suttisan stop you can "get off" the subway, then "get off" at Poseidon) and they will give you a small disk the size of a coin for scanning to get on the subway, then depositing in the turnstyle to get out at your destination. Easy.
